Is there someone at home you can call to open the letter for you?

splasheeny Sat 01-Mar-14 12:04:00

I really don't see why it matters. What other people do has no bearing on you.

So you want them to hold back on posting everyone's because you're not at home?
Yeah perfectly reasonable! hmm

ToootSweet Sat 01-Mar-14 12:11:12

And if its so important then go home.

Floggingmolly Sat 01-Mar-14 12:11:22

Are you sure it's not online? That would be very unusual?

Sorry, missed that bit.

HadABadDay2014 Sat 01-Mar-14 12:27:46

I thought this was going to be about a child not getting into a chosen school.

You will soon find out, why can't you go home.

MsColour Sat 01-Mar-14 12:31:52

Are they sending a letter? Or will it be online?

nennypops Sat 01-Mar-14 12:32:40

I don't see how you expect them to let people know by the 3rd without posting letters on Friday? Or do you expect the council's admissions department work on a Saturday just because you're not at home today?

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot Sat 01-Mar-14 12:34:22

OP: Have you seen this thread? One of the expert posters has pointed out that what this Council is doing is a breach of the Admissions Code (which has force of law).

AtiaoftheJulii Sat 01-Mar-14 12:34:56

It does seem a bit crazier than usual this year. A couple of LAs near us put their allocations up at midnight, rather than waiting until Monday. Local selective schools sent letters 2nd class yesterday and some are arriving today already ... And yes, there's no point being annoyed about it, but it's nice when everyone's in the same boat and waiting for the same day, and it's frustrating when some people know and YOU don't!

Floggingmolly Sat 01-Mar-14 12:36:40

When are you going home? It's a huge thing, finding out what school you've been allocated. You must be on pins!

The trouble with sending them second class is that there's no guarantee that they'd arrive on Monday. IME if you send something second class it can take anything up to a week to arrive.

TeacupDrama Sat 01-Mar-14 13:36:26

98 % of second class letters arrive within the 3 day target

nennypops Sat 01-Mar-14 13:38:41

So posting letters on Friday 2nd class would mean some or all arriving on Tuesday. Which would still be in breach of the regulations.

pussycatdoll Sat 01-Mar-14 13:40:28

Really surprised it's not on email!

AuntieStella Sat 01-Mar-14 13:46:08

Well, they'd better sort it out somehow.

Offers Day this year isn't 1 March, it's Monday 3 March and no one should be hearing before then. And it'll be Monday 2 March next year, and Monday 3 March the year after (or will a Leap year have intervened by then). So they need to work out how to release the information on Mondays as that is most frequent day on which it will fall due.

It's just as wrong for some councils to release info 2 days early like this as it would have been last year some had released info on 27 February.

Of perhaps just abolish the idea of a Unified Offers day if it is just too hard for all councils/boroughs to administer correctly?

FabBakerGirl Sat 01-Mar-14 13:55:27

DH told DD she would hear today so she is disappointed it is actually Monday.

HighwayRat Sat 01-Mar-14 13:56:44

we dont find out till April!!

nobodysbaby Sat 01-Mar-14 14:36:30

We got the email this morning, it was sent just after midnight. I sympathise OP, It's nervewracking. Our first choice was a gamble as well, I had to read the email out loud twice before I could believe she'd been offered a place! I hope you get what you want.
