AIBU?

AIBU about this twitter name?

AIBU to think that "silverfox" is not a suitable twitter handle for a Head Teacher's twitter account? Male. His students follow him. His school retweets him.

I don't know, there's just something mildly uncomfortable about the whole thing.

Have name changed for obvious reasons.

Oh, the silver fox bit is only part of the twitter handle, so don't just google Twitter Silver Fox and assume that all the names which come up are the person I'm talking about. There are lots.

I thought a silver fox was a name for older people who use the Internet. Regardless I don't think it's inappropriate and can't see why you would tbh.

i guess it depends on what the rest of the handle is - and i am not suggesting you share it on here! but it could be as simple as a nickname from his friends or family...

You feel mildly uncomfortable, really?

Why? Confused

So their HT has silver hair (I assume) and considers himself a bit of a fox

That's not a crime you know

That's silver surfer Clumsy.

What if his name is Mr Fox and he has grey hair?

Report
phantomnamechanger · 27/02/2014 22:03

YABU and frankly ridiculous

what on earth do you see as the problem, please explain

I'm guessing you think there is a slight sexy connotation? as long as he's not calling himself superstud or sexgod you need to lighten up a bit!

shakinstevenslovechild · 27/02/2014 22:03

I don't see anything wrong with it, it isn't like he is calling himself sexyass or bigknob. He is just (I assume) referring to the fact he has grey hair.

Lol at bigknob

you'll be complaining about the word head teacher next, I mean, what on earth is he teaching them Shock

eh ?

Philip Schofield is nicknamed the silver fox and he is the most asexual person I can think of right now

I agree charm
It's a bit inappropriate in this context. It's a pretty common term for an attractive greying man. Using it as his own twitter name comes across as a bit vain and immature

Yes, 'bigknob' would be worse.

There's a teacher at DS1's school who tweets curriculum-related info under a name which includes 'goldenboy'.

AnyFuckerHQ · 27/02/2014 22:10

Ah, there is a bit of the name missing?

Unless his name is MassiveCockSilverFox, yabu

WorraLiberty · 27/02/2014 22:10

Yes how dare the kids find out that he might consider himself attractive

All that self esteem is disgusting

Especially from one so old...

I can't see anything wrong with it myself. Is 'SilverFox' a euphemism for something rude that I'm too old and un-hip to be aware of?

charmschool · 27/02/2014 22:14

ducks

Fair enough. But what's wrong with using his real name as a fine upstanding member of the community and role model, rather than hiding behind a nickname which may or may not be funny?

I don't think its any ruder than something like cooldude for a younger teacher.

OP, we need to know is he fit? are you objecting on the grounds he is flattering himself?

You'd have to be very lucky to get your real name on the Twatter. He probably couldn't so went with something else.
