To miss uni on account of feeling 'weird'?

Feeling very odd. An going hot and cold, shaking, have vomited last night and pooed seven times yesterday. Also having very slight spotting. Tummy is 'tingly' and a bit swollen

In many ways, I feel like I'm having a period without the bleeding. I have the mirena so not sure if that can be affecting things, its sitting a lot lower than usual in that I can feel the strings very easily.

Would I be daft to miss my uni class today on account of how I'm feeling? I don't want to eat again incase I'm sick - still feel a bit queasy.. It's just a seminar but there are forty of us and all sit very close together - so if its a bug it'll be flying round the room.

What would you do - take the day off or go and hope for the best?

Purpleknickers Mon 24-Feb-14 09:29:03

Take the day off you are obviously feeling unwell and one day will not hurt

tonyblairsreallygoodlegsnbutt Mon 24-Feb-14 09:30:36

Day off, nobody will thank you for passing a sickness bug around. Hope you feel better soon!

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE Mon 24-Feb-14 09:30:46

I've missed uni for less grin

Meerkatwhiskers Mon 24-Feb-14 09:33:14

Oh god yeah. If you have vomited you should def not go in.

Topseyt Mon 24-Feb-14 09:37:08

Day off, definitely. I wouldn't be sending my children into school if they were feeling the way you are, so don't go into uni.

If you have a sickness and diarrhoea bug then you need to rest with plenty of fluids. You also need to stay in for a few days to reduce the chance of passing it on, as they can be very contagious.

If it doesn't subside in two or three days then consider asking your doctor whether it could be coil related, but I should hope it will subside quite quickly.

Jeez I miss half my classes. Go for it and feel loads better soon smile

specialsubject Mon 24-Feb-14 10:54:24

day off, unless you want to give it to forty other people.

ReadyToPopAndFresh Mon 24-Feb-14 11:03:04

you're an adult take the day off.

and take a pg test

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream Mon 24-Feb-14 11:28:38

Sounds like you might have an infection. Sod uni- get yourself to the GP!

Latara Mon 24-Feb-14 11:38:52

take the day off, you can always study at home if you feel better later on today.

shouldnthavesaid Mon 24-Feb-14 11:38:58

Not sure if infection although if things get much worse I will contact the surgery. And definitely not pregnant thankfully. Am sitting in jammas watching frasier and away to shower..

As a seminar tutor. I wouldn't expect students to rock up in that condition. Day off v.much in order.

And I am normally a massive arsehole when it comes to attendance.

I would actually give your GP a ring, lots of bugs around at the moment but if you are using the Mirena and have those symptoms, I'm not medical but if you were my DD I'd suggest doing so. Hope you feel better soon.

Ate a bowl of cereal - spewed again, rather spectacularly this time. Have now got a full wash to put on including towels, fleece blanket and all sorts without a dryer to dry them in. Phoned mum who says to get to bed, take paracetomal and set an alarm for 3 or so. Said if fever isn't down and vomiting hasn't stopped then phone GP.

Still bleeding a tiny bit and coil sitting very low - strings are about a cm inside whereas normally they're way up past what I can reach with index finger.

shouldnthavesaid Mon 24-Feb-14 12:13:49

I'm more tempted to phone them now though..

shouldnthavesaid Mon 24-Feb-14 14:48:12

GP phoning me at some point. It's my period - am now bleeding as would exepct, but my womb seems to be upset and trying to push coil out and am curled over with elbows on knees.. Lovely.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Mon 24-Feb-14 14:51:07

It's rough feeling poorly on your own, glad GP will ring back.

shouldnthavesaid Mon 24-Feb-14 14:58:58

So am I but I feel daft - I see her four weekly, and have spoken to her twice in the last three weeks as it is. When spoke to her last week she Sid 'if xyz doesn't work, then we'll talk on Monday' and laughed. I know she wasn't trying to be rude but feel so stupid.. Just one problem after another. Though to be fair this is a problem that has been going on in increasing severity for two years.

shouldnthavesaid Mon 24-Feb-14 15:05:39

Oh God can feel plastic now.

Am best ringing nhs 24 or something aren't I rather than waiting on GP finishing afternoon surgery?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Mon 24-Feb-14 15:25:05

If the GP hasn't rung by 5pm give NHS 24 a call.

shouldnthavesaid Mon 24-Feb-14 16:40:26

Not heard anything yet. Coil still there but still very sore.

SouthernComforts Mon 24-Feb-14 16:56:56

I'd ring GP again now.

shouldnthavesaid Mon 24-Feb-14 17:48:05

Have just rung - she's phoning ASAP but she's not been at work long (I'm sure they said she'd only come in at half 5) and still seeing a patient. Said she'll hopefully ring when she gets a minute.

Pelvic infection or pregnancy are my thoughts.
