AIBU?

To never ever eat again because eating means pooing. :(

I'm prone to piles especially since dc2 and thought I had it under control. I've been going daily for days but maybe Anusol isn't working its magic anymore..

anyway, I think I have anal fissures. In fact I'm sure of it. Today I spent 30 mins trying to poo, and it was like childbirth. I didn't push anything out in the end because it felt like I was about to tear open. I was sweating like I was when I was in stage 2 labour with my children.

I've used a glycerol suppository, and an anusol suppository and used loads of anusol. It's been about 5 hours now and I still need to go but am too scared to sit on the toilet. I haven't eaten all day because it just means building up more shit.

What shall I do? I'm not a troll btw, just really in pain. Why the fuck do women have to go through this shit after childbirth? .

Yup yanbu

I have cronic fissures due to sewing me up badly and suffer daily for nearly three years now, you can get creams that num you, or an op if the're bad like mine, but it can cause more scar tissue and more problems.

You have to eat though, lots of fibre so its not hard and you dont need to strain.

See your gp if it carries on as most do heal themselves.

You poor think. I had awful piles when I was pregnant with DS2 (massively painful) and have the remnants left which sometimes flair up.

I would definitely go and see your GP. They will take a look and let you know your options. Don't suffer in silence OP! I hope you get something sorted soon.

Oh you poor thing. Lots of sympathy...

I had a fissure after DD1 birth... not funny. But the straining sounds more like constipation - and that is not good for fissures or piles... you need things to be soft so things can heal.

So I'd recommend drinking lots and taking something like Lactulose at night to stimulate the bowel.

There is a gastro-rectal reflex so your best chance of going (as long as you're not dehydrated) is after a meal. Eg if I'm having any probs I drink lots of decaf drinks of an evening, take Lactulose, sleep, have a good breakfast with a big glass of orange juice and a mug of strong tea. Usually get an urge after finishing breakfast - sorry if tmi! But basically get well hydrated, have fibrey food and anti constipation treatments. Good luck!

I took a sennkot comfort after mine, just takes the edge off the poo and makes it a little bit softer.

Dulcoease is a stool softener, which can really help when you have piles.

This takes me back a bit. I also ripped terribly after the birth of DD and having a poo afterwards was just horrible. It took me over 3 weeks just to do a proper poo.

Sounds like you need fibogel or a Lactulose type product that makes the poo soft and easier to pass.

Good luck!

My dear friend suffered line this for 20 years ... Got to the point where she was in so much pain pooing she would down a glass of brandy, stuff a sock in her mouth to bite down on & have to jump straight in a warm bath because of the pain & bleeding. She was too embarrassed to seek help but eventually I talked her into asking for female doctors & nurses only. & she had a op to repair fissure, recovery was uncomfortable & quite long but she now wishes she'd done it years ago.

Thanks for the replies.
If I take lactulose now it will just soften the poo further up, not the bulk I have built up that's causing me the pain. (Sorry for tmi). I used a glycerol suppository but only left it in for 15 mins. Should I try it again?

I do usually take care of my diet, but have had too many take aways this week because of half term and pizza and naan don't agree with me. I'm such an idiot.

Another reason why I think it's flared up is that everytime I go to the loo my kids follow me and it just makes me tense up and I get up quickly.

MrsBucket can bad sewing cause fissures? I didn't know that. I think my stitches after dc2 were strange going up to my anus even though I had a 2nd degree tear and they felt strange.

I've started taking psyllium husk capsules, keeps everything soft without the side affects of fibogel/lactulose

These may help until you get a referral to get things sorted.

Keep hydrated and eat a lot of fruit

How many days has it been? Personally I'd still take the lactulose and lots to drink. When you get the urge, put tv on for kids and lock the door Wink!

this will sound a bit ridiculous. BUt when I was doing hynobirthing my instructor advised that as we are pregnant an therefore must be constipated we practiced doing the relaxation techniques on the toilet. I have actually done that and it does help.

Lactulose worked when I had the worst ever constipation. Most painful time ever. (For me worse than giving birth!)

I never used the suppository you mentioned. Good luck. It was one of the worst experiences. Hope it clears soon.

For general healthiness I use prunes/prune juice.

Actually I also sometimes drink some warm drinks.

With me I was cut horizontally and when I was sewn back together they pulled from the back, which tightened in the wrong places.

Im not the first I have heard of with this issue. My vagina is fine just not my anus.

I've had exactly the same thing in the past - a terrible fissure after having my DD, mine caused by not drinking/eating enough. The worst thing you can do is not eat, but also bear in mind you need to increase your fibre and fluid intake. Poo should be consistency of toothpaste. Try eating a pear a day. Also, don't get diarrhoea either, just as bad for you.

I ended up seeing a specialist and was a couple of weeks away from having surgery when i was given Glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) which worked for me. I would recommend you go to the doctors tomorrow and get a prescription before it gets worse.

If pain is unmanageable, get into a bath immediately afterwards. Whatever you do, drink as much as you can.

I am not an expert but I think avoiding going won't help, as you might get more blocked up. How about getting a box of mini enemas you can do yourself at home?

DarkTherapy · 23/02/2014 18:51

If you can hold on to the glycerin suppository longer - may be 30 minutes - the better. Rectogesic ointment is supposed to be good too? If it doesn't resolve then definitely see your GP.

colouringinqueen, this is the thing, I go everyday like clockwork. I have internal and external piles that have ripped or something with the daily friction I think. But ever since dc2 (2 years ago) I have to hold my bum and squeeze it and poo. I've had dc3 4 months ago and didn't tear but this is the worse I've been since dc2.

I might try the glycerol again now.

Thanks for all these suggestions, I've googled them, but am scared and embarrassed to go to the doctor. Hopefully this will clear up once I manage to relieve myself today.

You poor thing, if you have a foot stool try putting your feet on that. This was recommended to me when I had problems after DC2, it's supposed put your vowel in a better position.

This sounds gross but try standing up and holding your v cheeks open. I found this made it easier than sitting down. I think you must push with different muscles. Then once it's out, lactulose and water - tonnes of both. They were the only things that helped me.

Feet on a box, rock back and forward. The rocking seems to compress the right bits and squeeze it out.
