Loving this thread - entries from a diary a MN'er kept when she was 12.

It's now in classics and I want to read more! Add your embarrassing diary entries! Grin

'So, last night stayed at V's house with L. Was probably a bit hyper. I had rice and we made videos of us being the Vengaboys. Going to practice loads so that we can do it at the skating on Friday.
V says D fancies me. Wow.'

I'm cringing for my younger self. I hope to god she got rid of the videos.

Ha! It is cringe worthy, if I had access to the diaries I kept I would add them to that thread, while inwardly cringing, alas they are 300+ miles away in my parents house.

"have decided I definitely fancy x. Stared at him all through maths. Think he maybe fancies me as he looked at me a bit too"

He was probably just creeped out by my staring!

I kept a diary in my early teens for over 6yrs! I had a serious crush on 'M.G.' for about half of that time. Years later, we met on a night out and married last yr! I haven't dared to read him any extracts, although I still keep in touch with a few friends from school and they are fully aware of how obsessed I was! Cringe cringe cringe! One abbreviation that springs to mind... 'TFLA'... The fittest lad alive!
Off to hang head in shame!

I once (saddo alert) sellotaped in a "lucky 20p" that I found on the way to my part time job where I would see the fella of my dreams. he was a year older than me, at 18, he knew I fancied him and could wrap me round his little finger getting me to do things to help him out. I thought it was grand that he would repay my favours by giving me a lift home in his clapped out mini.

I look at the few grainy photos of works dos and wonder what I ever saw in him!

I don't actually have the diary entry but I do remember one, where I fancied my older cousin, totally cringe worthy, I think I was about 11 at the time. I'm glad to say I grew out of it lol.

I recently got rid of my teenage diaries in an attempt to self edit my life. The earlier ones went:

"Went to Trudy's for tea. Took ponies out. Jumped 3 fences in the raspberry canes on the way back. Watched Juliet Bravo before bed".

Couple of years later it was:

"Had Science, English, Maths and French. Saw Alex in the dinner queue and he LOOKED at me. Echo and the Bunnymen on TOTP".
Or
"Had PE, Science, Geography and German. Dossed about in PE. Wrote letter for AI like Bono said".

not cringeworthy, just sad. Have left spelling as it was and the rating score is how I used to rate my day:

Age: 10
Rating: z-

'Mommy + daddy decided to get deforced. We were all very sad, But they tried to make it sound nice. Mommy said I could get my own dog. We were going to live at xxx and daddy at xxx. I will always remember this.
Tims: 4.40pm'

I spent some time working in the Gambia in my early 20s, and my diary from that time is hilarious.

Best bit was after spending a day with a family out in a very rural area, and drinking unpasteurized cow's milk with raw cous cous in it, whilst various of the women of the family gathered round to watch me.

'Weird day today. Ate food which may as well have been warm sand, am sure cous cous should be COOKED or is that just some mad British idea? Loads of women wandering about with babies and toddlers on their boobs, god, it's disgusting. Although I'm obviously never having children, if I DID I would NEVER breastfeed, it looks too painful. Off to test goats again tomorrow, should be fun.'

I was such a twerp back then. Of course I am typing this as my 20 month old DC2 is attached to my boob, and have been bfing for 4.5 years next week :o

My teenage diaries were just plain atrocious - dull, badly written, and nothing ever happened.

I destroyed all of mine. They were v tmi. One page aged seventeen had a small dark red stain on it and a cryptic comment about it being vastly overestimated Shock

I kept a diary from age 10-17ish. My goodness they are Shock and Wink and Confused!!!! Age 10 include fascinating details like 'had a bath today'... in my teenage years I seemed to have crushes on silent boys and tennis stars!! Will look them out and quote at the weekend!

"I hate nice people. The way they go around, 'Oh I'm so nice." FUCK OFF.
8:23pm- My Elastica tape has broken. MY ELASTICA TAPE HAS BROKEN. It just made a weird noise and then stopped and when I took it out the actual tape bit was snapped. Why do these things happen to me? I think I was cursed at birth.
9:05pm- I think I'll write a poem about the broken tape and it'll be deep and meaningful and stuff like that."

My diary was spelling sentences for a long time -

Emma (classmate) makes a DREADFUL mess when she forgets to wipe her feet.

My sister frowned when she got sent out of the class,.

My sister puts up a good fight when told off.

I gave a great sigh when my sister fell into a puddle.

It is naughty to take something if you do not aak.

I found a chrysalis. I squashed it.

It is absolute chaos in our house.

My sister was not grateful for her pretty white communion dress.

My sister was annoying my mum as she refuses to do her homework.

Our cat is aggressive.

Great granny is lonely at her house.

My mum says my sister is a hopeless case.

My mum gets furious at my sister.
....

Sister, bless her is severely autistic with multiple learning difficulties. At that age we didn't know and mum was told by the doctor that it was just bad behavior. Sister went through years of screaming defiance.. I suspect I used my sentences as a sort of therapy! I was only ten when the above was written!!

DH is still taking the piss about it five years on.

I do have another more diary diary - 'On Sunday we watched Sophie and Edwards wedding in the nice lounge. Grandad was drunk and sang rude songs. Granny said he was disrespectful. Mummy laughed. She likes rude jokes with bad words. Grandad tells her lots of them. I think it is wrong.' (age 8 or 9)

'Last night mum had injections in her foot. We had to wait a half hour. We found seats that moved back so you could lie down. I told sister they were for all night queues, so you did not get tired. Sistergrabbed one. I just sat sensibly in a normal seat.'

I was a cocky very well behaved child Hmm
