To think there may be something more to this recent dog mauling?

Horrifically sad story about the 6 day old baby killed by an Alaskan Malamute in Wales.

But it seems a little bit odd... The death hasn't been listed as a dog attack, the police will not comment and say they're still investigating, also, the dog hasn't been destroyed?

In other cases like this I don't think there was such a delay?

Or maybe I'm reading too much into a DM article...

Awful anyway. Poor little baby

I did think it was strange that the dog hadn't been destroyed, they always seem to get destroyed, not that I necessarily agree, but I did have the same thought.

I also wondered this. The article I read didn't specify that the baby was 'mauled'. Could it be some other tragic outcome such as accidental suffocation?

I think it is odd too as they normal state the dog has been/is being destroyed and although any dog can turn it isn't the usual big jaw lock on type of dog IYGWIM.

I do wish people would be more careful with babies and dogs though. I'm a bit slack about most things and my dog is a softie but he was never left alone with my DS when he was a baby.

Someone at work mentioned suffocation so it could be that as they are huge dogs.

The quote the mother apparently shouted in the street would indicate a very vicious mauling, but then she was airlifted to hospital so the original reports can't be true.

I think the phrase 'the dog ate my babies head' is fairly graphic. As is the word 'mauled'.

I don't know if it would make a difference that the dog was apparently reported stolen? It might delay the destruction order (if one is applicable) if it is also the stolen goods in a theft case?

I was in the queue at a newsagent earlier and unfortunately saw the headline in The Sun (sick bastards). I'm sure a quick Google will find it if you haven't seen it. I can't get the hideous image out of my head. Poor, poor little baby

I really hate to specualte on threads lile this but the way this one has been reported does make it seem unusual.

Apparently the neighbour that found the dog outside has said there was no blood on the dog and that it was calm and friendly.

Whatever happened the whole thing makes me feel sick. That poor baby.

I have a big dog and was concerned how she would react when dd2 came home. She used to fuss if anyone carried dd around. I would never have left them anywhere alone together. Dd is 3 and the house is full of gates to keep the dog in certain places.

RIP poor darling baby - whatever has happened a dear sweet baby has died in horrible circumstances. speculating over the exact details, when it will all come out in the end anyway, is a bit ghoulish IMO.

It's all so horrible - a dog should never ever be close enough to a baby - supervised or not - for this to happen! My MIL has a dog and always tells me 'if they touched your dd they'd be put down!' Because that would turn back time and stop it happening people always think 'oh but MY dog isn't like that' in the right situation they are ALL like that!
This poor baby whatever happened to them!

It's very odd, I also wondered why the dog hadn't yet been destroyed. I think there's possibly more here than meets the eye.

I do wish people wouldn't leave very young children alone with dogs. Any dog, not just staffie and rotties ( who can make loving pets when they go to a responsible owner), can turn. I know of someone who was badly bitten by a Border Collie. Not a breed known for its aggression.

YANBU as it has been implied in many places the dog may have not been involved in the original attack on the child, or rather it has not been specifically stated that the dog did definitely attack the child.
Very sad, either way.

Poor little baby :(.

I was just looking at photo's on the Mirror online. They show a picture of a Police Officer with a dog on a lead wearing a plastic cone collar. The dog is almost certainly not a Malamute and the Officer is smiling down at the dog. Just doesn't make sense.

Whatever happened, I hope Eliza Mae did not suffer. God rest her soul.

I would imagine that the police are waiting to destroy the animal until after the child's post mortem. It's not a dangerous breed as such so no legal reason to do it until the owner says so. The air ambulance would have been called as standard although from what I understand the child was already dead. Bullet not all people have the attitude that you described. I have a large dog and am well aware that even the most placid docile animal can turn at any time and for any reason. I also don't like the speculation. It's better to wait until the facts come out I think. Also can I clarify that yes the neighbour did say the animal was docile and friendly but at no time did they say there was no blood on the dog. The dog was in fact in the house at the time it was not bought out until afterwards. The neighbour was referring to the dog been out two weeks ago. Don't believe everything the press print. They are not always factual.
