Teeth brushing in the morning?

Inspired by another thread here today. I am constantly shocked by the amount of people that claim to be too busy to brush their teeth first thing! They go to the school drop off, visit me... Then claim they haven't had a chance.
Am l being unreasonable to think there is no excuse and no life too busy to skip it?

I brush mine while I'm on the loo first thing. Multi tasking. grin

I wouldn't inflict my morning breath on anyone and I wouldn't thank anyone for inflicting theirs on me!

Mrsmorton Sun 16-Feb-14 19:04:42

It's awful. Absolutely disgusting IMO. Two minutes or hideous breath, gum disease and dental decay. Not a tough choice in my book!

YouStayClassySanDiego Sun 16-Feb-14 19:05:26

There is never an excuse to miss toothbrushing, ever!

It's grimness of the highest order, yuk !

SingMoreWhenYoureWinning Sun 16-Feb-14 19:06:28

That's rank. I wouldn't leave the house without brushing my teeth.

I will admit to every so often forgetting to brush them before bed...but morning is essential, akin to getting dressed before going out to me.

I often clean mine in the shower. Don't know whether that's ok or not. I have one of those waterpiks too and it's less messy that way.

I couldn't go out without brushing my teeth, and wouldn't let the DC out either. 2 minutes it takes. confused

I used to work with a woman who was too busy to brush her teeth in the mornings.

She used to wear a full face of makeup though confused

Eeeew that one I dont get. My teeth get brushed twice a day, if not more. Morning breath is icky.

Amy106 Sun 16-Feb-14 19:08:49

I can't imagine not brushing my teeth in the morning.

Feminine Sun 16-Feb-14 19:12:05

I don't know why l know so many people that don't.

SapphireMoon Sun 16-Feb-14 19:24:02

I am sometimes half way to school and realise my children haven't cleaned their teeth but me.... always.....

MummyPig24 Sun 16-Feb-14 19:39:44

We all brush our teeth twice a day. It's not something I could ever forget to do.

GingerRodgers Sun 16-Feb-14 19:46:18

Always brush teeth twice a day apart from at the mo. Seriously suffering from pregnancy sickness and brushing at night makes me violently sick.

phantomnamechanger Sun 16-Feb-14 19:49:59

can I ask a daft Q - WHEN are you all cleaning yr teeth? cleaning teeth here is done after breakfast, almost the last thing before leaving the house. Have read on here that people do it as soon as they /their DD get up - then eat breakfast....why bother, they are dirty again straight away??

ziggiestardust Sun 16-Feb-14 19:52:06

Ew! Who doesn't brush their teeth in the morning?! That's so dirty, I can't believe people don't!

Vickiyumyum Sun 16-Feb-14 19:54:24

Gross- I spend most mornings hearding dc into the bathroom to brush their teeth.

In our house it's up downstairs for breakfast still in pj's then upstairs for shower/wash then teeth and get dressed.

sykadelic15 Sun 16-Feb-14 19:55:26

I have forgotten once or twice because my alarm didn't go off and I thought I had. For this reason (and because I'm a little anal about it) I carry the colgate toothbrush things with the little mouthwash bead and brush them on the way to work.

Hasn't happened for a while but yes I understand forgetting in a moment of panic/drama but not being "too busy". I brush mine in the shower as part of my ritual (before washing my face).

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland Sun 16-Feb-14 19:57:20

A quick brush as soon as I get up, then a proper brush after breakfast.

Can't imagine going out, or even staying in, with yucky teeth.

HandMini Sun 16-Feb-14 20:00:12

I'm with Sing - sometimes I forget to before I fall asleep, but never never before I leave the house. I don't feel properly awake unless I have washed my face and cleaned my teeth.

TheDoctorsNewKidneys Sun 16-Feb-14 20:00:43

Ugh, I can't stand people who don't brush their teeth. It's rank.

I once went on a blind date with a guy who was lovely in all aspects except his teeth. He clearly never brushed them and they were vile. It takes 4 minutes a day and saves a lifetime of hassle and expense.

droopytulip Sun 16-Feb-14 20:03:22

Here you go phantom []

Sorry brushing before you eat breakfast is best. Something to do with the acid you produce while eating damaging your teeth if you brush after food.

LowCloudsForming Sun 16-Feb-14 20:07:45

YUK. That's akin to someone saying that they haven't wiped their bottom before leaving the house. Teeth should be cleaned morning and night AT A MINIMUM! No wonder that the British are the International joke when it comes to dental hygiene. Dirty teeth = bad breath and dental decay. There sis no excuse as it can be done in parallel while your child does it. How sad that anyone could place their dental hygiene so low!

EBearhug Sun 16-Feb-14 20:10:35

I am constantly shocked by the amount of people that claim to be too busy to brush their teeth first thing!

How do you know? I may suspect some people of not doing so < looks pointedly at colleague > - but I don't actually know about anyone's teeth-cleaning habits, except the last man I was seeing. I don't even know what my sister does - I assume it's similar to me, as we were brought up in the same way, but there are other things we differ in, so this could be the same.

If you brush after eating, it should be at least half an hour or so after, as that means there's less risk of the acids from eating risking your tooth enamel, I think.

If I'm feeling out of sorts, I often find brushing my teeth and washing my hair can help a lot.

It shouldn't take two minutes - more like five. Regardless, it isn't pleasant.
