What's the view on Waitrose on here OP?

Report
squoosh · 15/02/2014 21:12

I'm not sure what the view is either.

YABU to think that MN has " a view" on any subject.

MNers have many many views on every subject, even those that you think are uncontroversial.

what are you talking about guys, what about the secret Waitrose club? there's a handshake and a password and everything. glasnost!

I don't even know what a Waitrose is?? A fancy shop with expensive food??

Report
mrscumberbatch · 15/02/2014 21:15

I think Waitrose is quite expensive for run of the mill stuff. You'd get better at m&s or wholefoods.

There is a couple of things that are worth buying but on the whole, it's just another supermarket.

Huh?? Well, I'm part of the Waitrose club. Can't divulge the secret handshake I'm afraid but I consider myself pretty abnormal

What is the view? I like it but can't afford to do all of my shopping there. Is that a view?

quirrelquarrel · 15/02/2014 21:18

is Wholefoods that health mecca shop, there's one in Covent Garden that I wandered into, and upstairs they had wildly expensive lip balms for sale.

Waitrose is fun to shop at, it's a little perfect universe (that's what we tell ourselves to distract from the bill). I wonder why other supermarkets chose their logos to be like that when Waitrose's looks so much better really.

Yabu

Mumsnet is not one sentient being ffs.

The views on waitrose are reflected in the "real" world.

You get the best discounts at Waitrose if you're there at the right time.

Much as I love Morrison's their discounted spatchcock poussins are thin on the ground.

I've read 2 threads one a while bk about shopping in there and class and another where they was saying mentioning shopping in waitrose was a stealth post...I was just wondering as here its just a normal shop everyone shops in didn't mean to offend

What view?

Waitrose will be unique on all of mumsnet if there is a single, lonely old one view about it Grin

People in my local Waitrose are the biggest trolley fuckers going. I feel lied to by MN having had the image of polite, sensible non aisle hogging trolley pushers built up in my mind.

Plus their fresh bread is shit and their fruit and veg section isn't flash.

I was there earlier... bought the divine Victoria Sponge and then some Edamame beans for balance.

x post. Oh, you mean the running joke about different supermarkets appealing to different types of people?

Yeah, that's just something some people think. Not everyone or anywhere close.

More people don't give a shit about it than have any opinion at all.

As with most things Grin

The only view I have is that I really appreciated the free coffee when the DTs were tiny and I hadn't managed to finish a coffee at home in weeks. And they have Cartmel sticky toffee pudding.

BankWadger you almost made me snort my drink out with that!

We use my supermarket and Waitrose has consistently been cheaper that the usuals for the last 4 shops. I like it and never had a bad shop, but if Tesco came up cheaper one week I'd defect over there.

But I must say they do some lovely bread at my Waitrose (and I'm not a trolley fucker!) Grin

Quirrel, Wholefoods is mostly organic and does a lot of local produce.

Their makeup/bath products are all ethical and where possible also local.

And the cafe is delicious!

Quite a few people I know think that Waitrose is posh and expensive. It isn't. Our local one is lovely. Staff are very friendly, and helpful. And nobody tutted when DD had a full on tantrum there last week.

Also, their mini-pancakes are 40p cheaper a pack than the Co-Op.

You get the biggest reductions in Waitrose. So works out much much cheaper than other supermarkets if you shop at the right time - sometimes they end up paying you for food because of how their till system works. In my town its a choice between Waitrose or Aldi. No contest as you can't even get a pushchair down the aisles in Aldi, staff are rude, make you wait ages unnecessarily and then throw your food at you.
