AIBU?

To think this placement of zebra crossings is really dangerous?

I live near a roundabout just like this one

except the zebra crossings are slightly further (maybe about 1 car length) away from the lane exits and less visible when on the road.

AIBU to have contacted the local council about the placement of the crossings? There are two schools nearby and the amount of times I've seen teenagers nearly knocked over or minor car crashes as a result of sharp braking is ridiculous. I've been crashed into the back of twice from stopping for pedestrians, while the car behind me carries merrily on into my car!

The council's response was that they had to place the crossings very close to exits as this is where pedestrians naturally want to cross Hmm

I'll have to teach DC's to be very very wary of this roundabout when they get old enough to cross independently!

Yanbu.

There some like that near where I live, though I don't drive that way often at all. My mind boggles at the stupidity every time.

I thought the one near us was bad, we get slightly more room (about 1 and a half cars) before the zebras start. Very annoying as its quite close to the train station and the main road out of town so gets very busy

40 years ago a friend of mine, in London, came off such a roundabout and straight into the back of a car stopoped to let someone cross the Zebra crossing. Nothing has obviously changed!!

Yanbu. I hate them, they're everywhere where I live. You need flow off an island, but you have to slam on the breaks. Or you need to edge forward off the line to get out quick, but you're completely on the crossing. Terrible.
