to think if that woman in the Volkswagon ad was so conscious about her height

She should have checked the height of her dates before hand. Rather than facing the disappointment of smaller dates.

Assuming they don't lie.

keepthechangeufilthyanimal Thu 13-Feb-14 12:47:48

I agree.

I also don't think that she should get in the car with him on the first date.

HollyMiamiFLA Thu 13-Feb-14 12:52:01

I thought that as well.

PennyJennyPie Thu 13-Feb-14 12:52:30

Ha! You haven't been online dating have you? They all add a couple of inches to their height in their profiles.

Except DP of course!

Callani Thu 13-Feb-14 12:53:54

Also, she's wearing heels! Not small little heels, quite large ones. Surely if you knew you were taller-than-average (and that bothered you), you'd wear flats, or just lower heels?

badtime Thu 13-Feb-14 12:57:13

They all lie. My 5'11" partner is significantly taller than all the 6'2" men I met online, and I once met a 5'9" guy who was the same height as me (5'4.75").

ProfessorDent Thu 13-Feb-14 14:33:05

The song, by the way, is Needle in a Haystack, sung by Fred Astaire in one of his 1930s films back in the day.

The woman reminds me of Sally Phillips.

ViviPru Thu 13-Feb-14 14:38:08

This advert confused me initially as I thought it was the same man she was meeting every time....

squoosh Thu 13-Feb-14 14:50:17

ALL men lie about their height.

drudgewithagrudge Thu 13-Feb-14 15:50:51

What worries me is that she has only just met Mr Right Height and the next thing she is sat in his car being driven off to heaven knows where.

I thought first dates had to be in public places and you made your own way there.

I may be paranoid.

HollyMiamiFLA Thu 13-Feb-14 15:52:30

But they're having a great time though. In his car. So that's alright confused

squoosh Thu 13-Feb-14 15:57:42

Well yeah it is alright, because it's not real life.

Tiny little polar bears don't really live in the freezer either.

DanceParty Thu 13-Feb-14 16:11:43

It's an advert folks grin

Adverts are not the real world, nor anything like it.

MrsDavidBowie Thu 13-Feb-14 16:14:40

I love the a six footer myself, I know what it's like!

StanHouseMuir Thu 13-Feb-14 16:49:08

squoosh 6'4" am I lying?

DCexpat Thu 13-Feb-14 16:51:51

I'm 6'1. I've never dated a guy who was taller than me. I find that guys don't mind dating taller girls, but many girls are resistant to dating shorter guys. Refusing to date guys shorter than me would be very limiting.

squoosh Thu 13-Feb-14 16:52:33

I should add that so many men have lied about their height for so long that they convince themselves their fictional height is actually correct.

RegTheMonkey Thu 13-Feb-14 16:56:35

It's not the Fred Astaire version in the ad though. Speaking of ads, I have an inappropriate crush on the guy in the Cadbury ad. The one who mimes to 'Yes Sir, I can boogie'. Can't find the name of the actor anywhere.

CatAmongThePigeons Thu 13-Feb-14 17:06:05

My husband was the height he said he was <irrelevant>

I know the pain of having men lie about their height

StanHouseMuir Thu 13-Feb-14 17:06:43

6'4" and a little bit.

Whenever I see a tall female I'm reminded of when I had a tall waltz partner and we zipped around the dance floor at an amazing speed. Can't do that with DW though.

TiggyCBE Thu 13-Feb-14 17:54:14

I don't lie about my height. But then again I'm sensibly sized.

StickEmUpBigStyle Thu 13-Feb-14 18:04:15

I really want the car. I love the Up.

NinjaCow Thu 13-Feb-14 18:05:07

DP is 6ft4. I'm 5ft7, so am tiny in comparison to him grin when I first chatted to him (online, although we had mutual friends we were set up via email originally) I thought he lied about his height. I got quite a shock when I realised he hadn't.

pigsDOfly Thu 13-Feb-14 18:18:26

Regthemonkey The actor you have a crush on is called Brendan Gibson. Hope that puts you out of your miserysmile

iklboo Thu 13-Feb-14 18:46:11

It's the face she pulls when they're under the umbrella. You could carry it yourself love!

I'm only 5ft. To date a shorter bloke I'd have to give Warwick Davies or Peter Dinklage a bell.
