AIBU?

Going for a group interview/assessment on Friday - AIBU to think I'm going to make a complete fool of myself?

Wanting to get back to work after a considerable time away due to physical ill health. Used to teach in a FE College (health care courses) and was good at it.

I've just found out that its to be group interview with a group assessment task - the whole thing lasts 2 hours.

They want a number of people to teach a new course (health related) that they've got the contract to deliver. I know I could deliver the course and I'm well qualified etc but I've just gone to pieces thinking about this group interview/assessment. I'm imagining everyone else will be confident and outgoing and I'll just sit there saying nothing and feeling a fool, yet I know I can teach! Confused

AIBU to think I'm going to make a fool of myself?

I know it's a bit nerve-wracking, and different with peers than with students, but performing in front of others is all part of teaching and being observed by others goes with the territory, I wish it didn't!

So, you are not unreasonable to be nervous, these type of things are really nerve-wracking, but read up on the info they give you and just go in positive and calm, you don't need to constantly prove you are a leader, but you do need to be outgoing enough to speak in front of others really to do that job.

No, you know what you are doing and they would be lucky to have you. Just pretend you are confident and remember you DO actually know the subject. Good, good luck.

You will be fine. Just remember completing the task is NOT the point, the point is how you interact as a team. Few tips ( I assess these)
Don't dominate but it's ok to take charges long as you listen to others and try and involve them
Give people set tasks
Check everyone is ok
Explain what you are doing and why
Make sure you get your view across but don't be too pushy.
Read the task notes really thoroughly and follow instructions exactly.
Keep an eye on the time
Sorry if you already know all this and I'm being a bit patronising or anything
Good luck

Everyone will be feeling the same. IME group tasks are an assessment of communication skills. I.e. Listening (and encouraging nods etc at the appropriate time) are just as important as having lots to say. Get all your stress out beforehand and go in there just being yourself. You'll be great!
