Just found some frozen quorn mince in the freezer dated May 2013 - what do you think?

Liara Tue 11-Feb-14 20:51:47

How good is your freezer? If it's a chest freezer at -18 I would, if it's a small compartment in a fridge I wouldn't.

Waltonswatcher1 Tue 11-Feb-14 20:54:19

No way!

brooncoo Tue 11-Feb-14 20:54:49

Bottom half of the fridge style freezer. Can you get food poisoning from Quorn?

JaneFonda Tue 11-Feb-14 20:55:00

I would.

Nomama Tue 11-Feb-14 20:55:16

Is it freezer burned? Was it well wrapped? Why not?

slimyak Tue 11-Feb-14 20:56:44

I would say quorn probably has a best before date rather than use by date. In which case it'll probably be a bit dry but won't kill you. Common sense on the freezer as liara says and I wouldn't use it for BLW! I'd probably eat it.

fuzzywuzzy Tue 11-Feb-14 20:58:06

Nooooooooo it's almost a year out of date. Bin it.

DrinkFeckArseGirls Tue 11-Feb-14 22:12:33

I'd eat it.

supadupapupascupa Tue 11-Feb-14 22:14:00

time stands still as far as i'm concerned in a freezer - that's the whole point. As long as it isn't freezer burned and looks alright I would cook and eat.

This^^ I've eaten things that were 10 years old (out of my mum's freezer, I hasten to add) and they've tasted fine and haven't had any side effects.

Mia4 Tue 11-Feb-14 22:33:59

It's fine, it's not meat. TBF I've eaten meat years after it's sell by date which have been frozen, I never bother to look. I know what listeria looks like on food and unless the freezer is crap or it defrosts and then is refrozen even meat should be fine.

But it's up to you OP.

acsec Tue 11-Feb-14 22:34:44

Eat it, not at all a problem!

Wuxiapian Tue 11-Feb-14 22:37:29

Shouldn't be a problem. It's been frozen for a while, so germ free.

DanceParty Tue 11-Feb-14 22:38:15

It will be fine !!

BagOfBats Tue 11-Feb-14 22:43:05

What's freezer burn?

Cringechilli Tue 11-Feb-14 22:44:51

Yuck! I'd bin it.

Zookiemay Tue 11-Feb-14 22:46:09

Eat it and see? Let us know and then I can make up my mind about eating the bag of quorn mince at the back of my own freezer.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops Tue 11-Feb-14 22:47:06

I'd eat it.

TheBookofRuth Tue 11-Feb-14 22:52:47

Can Quorn actually get any worse?

hardtostayfocused Tue 11-Feb-14 22:58:01

9 months, that's nothing. It'll be fine! I had some two year old mackerel fillets the other day - delicious.

deakymom Tue 11-Feb-14 22:59:36

its a type of mushroom stuff so cook the hell out of it x

thecatneuterer Tue 11-Feb-14 23:26:51

I'd definitely eat it. These best before dates always leave a huge margin for error, and as it's not meat what harm can it do you?

SergeantJarhead Wed 12-Feb-14 00:45:04

Eat it OP. Make a banging lasagne.

brooncoo Wed 12-Feb-14 00:57:37

Oh well, if you don't see me around any more - you'll know it was a bad idea!
