AIBU?

to ask about car seats

I have 2 ds, 9 and 7.
They just told me that their dad has thrown their car seats (ds1 had a booster and ds2 a hbb) away and told them that as they dont live with him they don't need them when they are there. He takes them in the car at least twice both weeks.
Is that true? I was under the impression that he legally had to have booster seats for them.
Both are under 135cms

Not good - he wants to be cool daddy while you are portrayed as fussy/silly/mean mummy. I would want to know that he took the DC safety seriously. I have a tall for his age 9yo and even he is still in a booster seat, just under the 135

The term is "regular journeys" therefore he needs to provide them with car seats.

There are three exceptions where there is not a child seat available. In each case the child MUST use the adult belt instead. They are -

  1. in a licensed taxi or private hire vehicle;

  2. if the child is travelling on a short distance for reason of unexpected necessity;

  3. if there are two occupied child restraints in the rear which prevent the fitment of a third.

Thanks. I was wondering if I'd misinterpreted the 'unexpected' part of the law.

Errr no, he has completely. How is collecting and delivering his dc as arranged "unexpected"?? Report him to the police if he doesn't get them new seats?

He's maintaining that he doesn't need them as its a short journey (we live about 3 or 4 miles apart)
I've told him if I don't have proof that he has them next week the boys aren't getting in the car. Boys will hate me for it though!

It very clearly states that it is a short journey of unexpected necessity - it's not unexpected necessity. It is planned and regular!!

You could hand over your car seats provided you will get them back?

I don't drive so don't have carseats, he kept the ones we bought when we were together as he had the car.
I would happily hand them over if I did

All you can do is take the dc out to the car so you can see for yourself whether he's replaced them or not!

What an idiot he is, it's a safety law FGS. Perhaps he doens't want someone new knowing he has dc?
