AIBU?

To not buy a house because next door neighbours were having a screaming match...

...during our viewing this afternoon? It went on for ages and was loud enough to hear through a well-inslated wall and double glazing.

Having rented beneath a miserable couple for a year I've no wish to repeat the experience - it really impacted on our wellbeing.

However, it's a house in the area of London we want to be in, reasonably priced (by local standards) and in pretty good nick, and we haven't seen anything else remotely this nice or spacious in our three month search. WWYD?

Totally avoid. There's a reason it's reasonably priced - and it's living next door.

Avoid and be grateful that you got a preview of what it would be like living near these people.

Maybe it's why the owners are settling!

That would be enough for me to walk away. I've not purchased a house before because the neighbours had cars parked all over the nature strip or because the neighbours didn't look after their property.

Neighbours can make or break a property.
I would avoid it.

Imagine 3am that arguing every weekend?!

Oh god, avoid like the plague.

I would avoid it, we avoided a house because when we viewed it the neighbours' dog barked constantly and I couldn't handle the thought of living with the noise.

You don't want to be stuck next to that !

If they will do that of an afternoon, what will they be like at 1am on a Saturday night?

It could be bad timing, we all have raging rows occasionally! But it might not, and with the amount of money involved (especially at London prices) I wouldnt be prepared to take the risk.

YANBU. They would be hell to live next door to.

Yes, I wish we'd known about next door's rows and the noisy makeup sex before we'd moved in.

Avoid like the plague.

The clue is in the 'reasonable price' for the area.
Meaning if the neighbours were normal, the house would cost more & be in line with the area.

YANBU.

Walk away, there'll be other houses that you like.

Report
MadIsTheNewNormal · 09/02/2014 04:21

Did you ask the owners if that was normal?!

Not that they would admit it, but by their body language you'd be able to tell.

But whether they argue all the time or not, it's an indication that noise travels easily through those houses, so very loud tellies, crying babies etc, all might be a problem in the future.

If they argue like that with each other they might easily be unpleasant to you too.

Yanbu. My mum had neighbours who argued. She lived in a first floor of a three storey block. To give you an idea, this was a typical, public argument.

neighbour upstairs decided to knock his bathroom through one night.

neighbours downstairs thought it was my mum banging. Man bangs on door. Mum tells him its not her.

they immediately start arguing over it being the man above my mum, hes calling her a birch and a cunt. She's screaming "if you were a real man you'd go up there and slit his fucking throat".

this would continue until early hours with periods of loud music (his) to drown out her screaming at him, only turned down for periods of him screaming at her.

Followed by half hour quiet and then noisy sex including what i can only describe as one of them impersonating a distressed donkey.

This sort of thing was a regular occurance.

DONT DO IT

Avoid, at all costs.

We had neighbours like that. It was awful, he smashed all the windows in the house on one occasion, the police were called on several occasions. They had noisy parties, when neighbours complained there was a fight in the front garden..........

It would put me off

I have also lived next to nightmare neighbours which the police would do nothing about except tell me to ring environmental health about noise pollution. I was amazed that blasting music at 4am is not a criminal offence!

Have a second viewing and see if they screech again
