Enticed by Mo and seeing it was a good source if protein, my dh went and bought lots of Quorn.

Interested to know what replaced the meat, I googled it only to find warnings about how unwell people have become after eating it!

Do not fancy it much now but realistically has anyone fallen ill after eating Quorn other than trumping loads from the protein?

OP posts:

NO not had any problems with it at all! I love it actually. It is a fungus based product, could be people who have allergies to mushrooms etc?

Yes. Get very bad heartburn/indigestion. Am allergic to penicillin.

I've never had a reaction to it. I would imagine that mushroom/yeast allergies or egg allergies would be the most likely source of tummy upset from Quorn. Maybe sulphite sensitivities? Not sure what it's seasoned with but lots of things like veggie sausages contain sulphites (natural chemicals found in mustard/celery).

Yes, it smells like feet. Yuck.

My veggie DM fed it to me regularly when I was wee, I had no bad side effects. Her favourite trick is to feed it to 'unsuspecting' committed meat eaters who she thinks will never notice the difference (!) and none of them have got ill either. So far anyway lucky for her Grin

Most quorn products contain wheat so are off limits for gluten allergy / intolerance people.

Callme it does taste quite bread-y so that makes sense. Explains why some people have had reactions - it's not like it's anything dodgy.

Some people have very strong reactions - a friend's husband will be throwing up shortly after eating it!

No we haven't.

I tend to use the mince to add to meat mince. The family don't notice the difference.

Gives me wind and an upset tum if I eat too much, but nothing more serious than that.

DP is violently ill within a couple of hours of eating Quorn. Sweating, d&v, and a 24 hr 'hangover' period. It's not pretty.
