AIBU?

To think you are going to make a hot drink, you should at least boil the friffing kettle?

Hmm

I've wondered for years just what is wrong with the tea/coffee that DH makes for me; there's usually the right amount of milk, sugar and what-not but something is amiss.

Yesterday it all came clunking into place when he was making a coffee for us whilst I was putting some washing in; he doesn't leave the kettle to boil! He takes it off the heat just before it gets to boiling! Shock

That is what has been wrong all these years! The lazy arsepart.

Obviously am going to LTB. He doesn't see what is wrong with this which makes it all the more devastating.

Sugar?

Heathen.

Yes, sugar.

I even scrape my spoon around the bottom of the cup as I stir.

When I was a stroppy teenager and saw every request for me to make a cup of tea as tantamount to asking me to donate a kidney, I used to make tea for my parents by using the hot water from the tap.

If I could punch 15 year old me in the tit, I would do it.

Is he a coffee drinker by any chance?

at hot tap. Shock

He sometimes microwaves a cup of water to make a hot drink because the microwave uses less energy than the super-quick kettle we own. Hmm

Yes he drinks coffee more often than not but be assured, it's naff all to do with optimum temperature for the coffee. He is just a lazy shit.

I take the kettle off before it boils because I don't like boiling hot drinks and also boiling water makes instant coffee taste burnt.

You could make your own coffee just the way you like it?!

You shouldn't have to put up with behaviour like this!

Heres some hand holding.

I could make my own coffee the way I like it but I was under the foolish illusion that in a marriage, making a cup of drink for your spouse was a fair ask.

We split hot drink-making 50/50 FWIW.

I don't know, I don't know... the water always looks cloudy when he makes coffee/tea in the microwave. And it tastes like hotted-up Satan's jizz.

But but but... heating the hot water in a microwave is surely more energy consuming than just boiling one cup's worth in the kettle? You have to judge how long to leave it in for, and then stir it and check it and put it back in etc. There's just no logic to that!

That is what I say to him, Hop.

he is just a nob.

When I suggested getting rid of the unnecessarily huge and ancient microwave (that we never use) he said we had to keep it to heat water in. I give up...

Yeah, LTB and his manky hot drinks.

Our kettle boils in 60 seconds. He heats water up in the microwave for 60 seconds...

You see what I am up against.

Yanbu.

Our kettle started doing this of own accord. Obviously this meant it was broken and needed to be replaced. The tea that it made with not quite boiling water during this time was horrible so I feel your pain.

Like, I can't quite explain what it IS with the water but it's not right?!

It's kind of like gravy.

I'll be sure to show your post to my Dh HopALongOn. Sounds exactly like our dd, and Dh can't understand why she suddenly turns into a stroppy po-faced madam when he asks her to make a cup of tea!

Tea - Kettle must be boiling and poured right away

Coffee - Take it off the boil just before it pops - Otherwise you will burn the coffee (tis true) and it taste funny (unless you add the milk first so it doesn't burn)

I think they wondered how I always managed to get it at the right drinking temperature.

Bizarrely, whenever I go back and stay with my parents, I still have to resist the urge to strop 'but I have to do everything!!!!' when they ask me to put the kettle on. I'm nearly 30.

HopALongOn Grin

Unfortunately for dd, Dh is very particular about his tea (it must be very hot, not too milky or generally weak) and he sends her back to the kitchen to do it again if it doesn't meet his high standards!
