For coming to see me and my 9 week old baby today and she has a sore throat and cough!!
I was annoyed and told her so which left us with an uncomfortable afternoon, we went shopping. I also asked her not to touch her as we was out, she was coughing into her hands and that too. I feel so bad cos it's my mum and it wasn't maliciously done of course but unthoughtful I believe. Would u have been annoyed? Or no big deal?

YABU.

As long as she wasn't coughing and sneezing all over the baby, I think you're over-thinking it.

Also, if she's well enough to visit you and go shopping she can't have been very sick.

YANBU it was thoughtless, especially when your baby is only 9 weeks.

DC1, I would have been annoyed. Not long after DC2 was born MIL asked if she should stay away as she had a cold. I said she was fine to come as.long as she didn't lick the baby Blush. I just wanted someone around to help, germy or not. IME small babies don't pick things up as easily because they don't touch things as much. As long as someone doesn't cough/sneeze in their face and is careful about touching it's fine.

But being protective of your first is normal. DC2 generally gets a more neglectful laid back approach.

Yabu and rude. Your mother has raised children before hasn't she?

coffeetea103 haha, do you not think ur response is actually a little rude? She has raised children of course, it's moi! but a 9 week old baby and someone coughing with hands over mouth then touching baby's hands who then sucks on said hands! Isn't that how colds are spread ? Am I not just protecting my baby?
