I quite like her in big brother in an aloof distant way

HelloBoys Wed 22-Jan-14 14:10:08

I do also feel for her having been anorexic and wonder whether her family problems had anything to do with that and some of her other problems though Caitlin Moran from similar background seems normal

HelloBoys Wed 22-Jan-14 14:09:08

oh I had no idea Liz' family was outraged re the photos of her mother.

In LJ defence I suppose was she bringing attention to NHS/dementia/alzheimers etc?

She is good at writing about shops and how they could improve, also animal cruelty and use of fur/skin etc in fashion.

She is also good about writing about fashion in general and I think she was good as editor of Marie Claire.

But I agree all the other stuff makes her look like a loon at best (stealing her ex-husband's sperm from a condom was it?!) and sad at worst.

and there's no need to carp on about debt when you blow money on designer gear.

she is wacky and eccentric and seems really nice, I do think she has a kind heart.

I was. A bit. But then I Googled her again last night, read some of her writing and my sympathies have reversed.

I don't hate her, but hate what she usually writes. I feel very sorry for her and just thank God I don't have her issues.

Undertone Wed 22-Jan-14 12:43:47

Didn't she write an article about how all young professional women who are sexually harassed bring it upon themselves, should expect it to a certain extent, and should just put up with it?

She writes hateful click-bait and if you're warming to her on CBB then that was a carefully orchestrated move on the part of her PR strategy to try and re-launch her public identity. Don't be taken in.

Latara Wed 22-Jan-14 12:29:35

I think the main reason for warming to her on CBB is that she doesn't seem so bad compared to many of the other housemates!

ScentedScandal Wed 22-Jan-14 12:15:54

I cant understand her debt problems. One minute she's not got a bean but it never seems to affect her lifestyle one iotaconfused I'm suspect it's all made uphmm.

JennySense Wed 22-Jan-14 12:06:04

scented she's written about not getting to do a reality show before which she'd signed up for to pay her debts off, so I'm thinking it's for the money - which I can't say I'm surprised. A few weeks back she was writing she was debt free again...

ScentedScandal Wed 22-Jan-14 11:53:18

Blimey there's a thread title I never thought I'd see on mn!grinwink

I think she is very definitely one of those writers in the media who say anything for the sake of controversy. Katie Hopkins is another. They are merely paid to stir things up; I don't think they actually do believe half of what they say in public or actually are the same in rl.

I must admit that all the other weird and nasty stuff LJ writes aside, when she writes about fashion I think she's pretty good. If only she would stick to that really.

Haven't watched BB. I'm astonished she agreed to it thoughshock

newestbridearound Wed 22-Jan-14 11:44:02

mrsjay you know you want to like her along with us lot really grin

I have warmed to her lot, I can't say that I think she's wonderful or anything like that but in the house I think she has come across very well. I like her a lot more than I did before she went in.

nicecuppatee Wed 22-Jan-14 11:32:57

I can't stand Liz Jones. I haven't watched big brother, but I wonder how warm you'd feel about her after reading any of her 'work'. Somebody has already mentioned the piece she wrote about Jo Yeates, and the selling out of her mother (the same mother she threw out for leaving wheel tracks on her wooden floor, and the same mother whose dementia she welcomed as it meant her real age would not be revealed).

There's also this, which made me incredibly angry for those who actually have mobility problems, not just convenient deafness. She's just a nasty selfish cow, IMO

bibliomania Wed 22-Jan-14 10:47:39

I don't normally watch CBB but did a bit because LJ was on. I do find her quite compelling, but it's because she makes you feel so together by comparison. I feel a sort of horrified pity.

That said, Reg, I mightn't be entirely nice myself if I was told I could only have instant coffee instead of proper stuff. I cannot understand why people are willing to go into Big Brother house. The helplessness, the inability to get away from other people, the lack of stuff to do. Aaaagh!

kitsmummy Wed 22-Jan-14 10:45:24

I have definitely warmed to her too and I thought her depressed monologue to Luisa who was trying to make her laugh to win a secret mission was genius!

ephemeralfairy Wed 22-Jan-14 10:44:29

Liz, Jan Moir, Melanie Phillips et al....their days are gone. We have Katie Hopkins to hate now.

yabu, and I agree with the poster who is surprised she is a real person.

She published a photo of her mother lying in bed, looking unconscious. Her family was outraged and she had to take the photo down. She just use to mildly annoy me until: the infamous Jo Yeates piece. That was just so horrible. Then her ridiculous appearances on This Morning talking about stealing sperm and how she wanted to warn the mothers of young men about it because it was 'what young women were capable of' or something like that. Then she was vicious about Clare Balding and Holly Willoughby. On CBB she was asking for Illy coffee to be put on the shopping list, Luisa said there was only instant on there and Liz Jones called her 'you stupid fucking woman' (it might have been 'you fucking stupid woman'). I was a bit taken aback because she always says in her articles that she never swears.

JennySense Wed 22-Jan-14 10:31:17

And info on the horse from the owner herself appeared on Facebook:

Jo Yeates:

JennySense Wed 22-Jan-14 10:28:30

Her mother was 93 with alzheimers - how could she give permission?
I think the photo was subsequently removed from the online edition.

Fairyloo Wed 22-Jan-14 10:22:37

What did she say about Jo yeates

HelloBoys Wed 22-Jan-14 10:07:42

Jennysense how do you know she published a photo of her very sick mother without her consent?!

HelloBoys Wed 22-Jan-14 10:06:46

She is interesting.

I'm not sure whether I like her or not. On the one hand she comes across as normal, animal lover etc. on the other hand she writes about her designer clothing habit and then how much debt she's in and I wonder if the reader is supposed to pity her?!

I did think her party photo here was hilarious regardless of what she was up to.

JennySense Wed 22-Jan-14 09:24:19

I can't warm to someone who's published personal stuff about her family [including photos of her very sick mother without her consent], and about people who don't have a media platform to defend themselves such as her sister Sue, her current boyfriends ex and various others over the years.
I was pleased that the PCC ruled in favour of the owner of a horse, I believe, she was stabling learning about its death in her diary column.
Whenever I start to feel sorry for her I also remember the pretty awful article she wrote about Jo Yeates...
