AIBU?

to admit I stink

and to beg for help Sad

I fart ALL the time. It's clearly linked to diet, but I can't think what. I eat very bland foods, I don't eat during the day at all when at work as it just causes terrible gas. I get constipated a lot too.

But the main issue is clearly the farts. I recognise they are totally anti-social but I can't keep them in - they seep out. They are not loud, however they stink to high heaven, I really have never in my life known anyone produce such smelly ones.

Please don't laugh. I swear, I don't "look" the part. I am smart, well put together, neat, tidy - I just cannot help it and honestly don't know why. I've kept a food diary but the doctor wasn't helpful at all and at the moment I am conscious my bedroom stinks like a sewer and I feel sick with it.

Stop eating shop bought bread.

And bananas.

Eat a no sugar live natural yogurt every day (Lidl do nice cheap ones).

All farty probs solved.

It certainly solved mine.

And drink more water (tap) to solve the constipation.

If you are constipated try psyllium husks - only non-wheat bulking agent that is kind to the tummy. Drink plenty of fluids too.

Start by cutting wheat as that's a big culprit for problems like this.

Get some Actimel drinks and start by having two a day, then cut down to one after about a week. It must be Actimel, the other probiotic drinks don't seem as effective.

Keep on with the food diary as you might find something else is causing it, but cutting wheat might make all the difference as it's highly indigestible and causes a lot of problems for people.

I honestly would go back to the doctor. Of course this is nothing to do with you not being smart, clean etc - it sounds like a medical problem.

The thing is, I have tried cutting out food groups but it hasn't really made a difference. The only thing that works is not eating at all but obviously long term I can't do that!

I can't eat n public or in front of people as it is as my belly gurgles horribly Sad It's so embarrassing!

It's golloping your food down OP...my DH is the same as you...he REEKS and like you has an inoffensive diet...I told him it must be the fact that he inhales his food at a rate of knotts and since he slowed down, it's improved. Do you eat too fast?

Devora, thank you, that means so much. It really does make me feel disgusting, dirty.

I do try to avoid bread, but it's hard as without fibre constipation builds which causes the really foul, rotting stench.

How long did you cut out the food groups for? It can take a while to settle down. Also, if your gut flora has suffered for a long time, it takes a while to recover and get back to normal. You can buy probiotic capsules or take the Actimel. Either would really help your gut and digestion.

Awful, not at all, I couldn't eat quickly if I wanted to, because my throat sort of contracts and I would bring the food back up - hard to explain.

Typically I eat porridge with skimmed milk (I have tried soya milk and almond milk but this hasn't made a difference), chicken, fish, a bit of pasta, tangerines, apples, pears, bananas, butternut squash, sweetcorn, carrots ... (am thinking last 3 days.) One packet of snack-a-jacks Saturday afternoon.

The pasta is made from wheat.

Report
itismesorry · 12/01/2014 23:03

I know hidden but when I have cut wheat out in the past it hasn't made a difference so I include it in my diet at the moment as it doesn't make a difference to my stomach whether I have it or not.

I also suffer! Certain bread affects me (tesco own brand), whilst others are fine. Also, sometimes pears affect me, other times I'm fine. I'll be watching this thread with interest.

I think the constipation is probably the problem. Have you been to a good - and I mean a good one, not Holland and Barrets - herbalist? I think you probably could do with a high dose probiotic and something to keep things moving. Exercise and plenty fluids too will help

Report
hiddenhome · 12/01/2014 23:04

Okay. Perhaps you just need to experiment with longer periods of time. I honestly think the probiotics will help.

Thanks Wilson :) I am fairly convinced it's constipation, I know once I've been for a poo I'll be ok for a couple of days at least. But it seems to be getting worse lately and (this is horrible) when I go to the toilet for a poo, I never seem to get all of it out, it's always like there's still some stuck in me.

I know I am being silly but it really does affect my self-esteem, I take such pride in myself and my surroundings yet smell like shit, and that's hard.

Could you get some laxido from your doctor? It will help to get you regular and stop the constipation cycle.

OP, I am currently in a similar situation (not the smelly farts) but the whole gurgling noise. I am young and find it difficult to socialise with my own friends (except the very close ones) in the evening because after eating the whole day my stomach does not stop gurgling. It can become quite painful too, but it is embarrassing more than anything. Does anyone know whether this may be a gluten problem? Sorry to hijack but it seems silly starting a new thread when it is so similar and I am desperate to find a diet to suit my needs!
