Just been out for a meal.

Food arrived from the kitchen on either a slate or a giant block of wood.

What the fuck is wrong with plates???

Why do they feel the need to stick my food on something I stick on my roof or a bloody breadboard?

Is it just me? I WEEP for the poor neglected china.

I've never been served my food on building materials. I'm obviously eating in all the wrong places!!

How does gravy cope on a slate without sloping edges?

Poor gravy, or jus, or foam or whatever they're calling it.

Burgers and chips all seem to be served on planks of wood these days.

Tis poncey innit! I was in UK at Xmas and went to pub and ordered fish and chips. It came on a wooden board - the fish that is, with the chips in a china version of a newspaper cone. You can't soak it all in vinegar that way - poncey bastards!

Chips in little silver buckets seems to be popular here.
And the bucket sits on a wooden board, obvs.

The burgers were on a block of wood with a piss poor portion of chips in a crappy little wire basket thing.

I don't know, I had some mushy peas in a teeny copper saucepan once with chips in an itsy bitsy little metal basket. That was fun (except I only got 6 chips).

statistics I live in the far north west of England and if poncey shit has reached us, its only time before it does you.

I blame Jamie Oliver

He's always at that

Put's me right off

X-post.
So we know why they do the little basket - it's an excuse to not give you very many chips.

The place I had it was in the Dales.

Someone got a "chunky chip stack".

4 chips arranged like Jenga.

I want to eat it, not see if it falls over when I take a chip away.

It is silly. It won't be long before they go all retro and we go back to having chicken and chips in a basket.

My other pet hate is everything coming out on sheet if grease proof paper. Wtf?

for only £55 you can serve your cold meats like this at home

Was it a Jamie's Keema, or a Byron type thing?

TunipTheUnconquerable · 10/01/2014 21:12

Now if it was 54 chips, like in proper Jenga, it would make more sense.
Actual chips Jenga in a pub would be amazing.

Wooden boards for antipasti is fine. For a proper dish, eugh, no way.

I don't understand serving on slate tiles, just weird.

What really bugs me is when you get six chips stacked. Six chips is not a portion, however 'chunky' they are.

It was a Gastro Pub, wasn't it?

I too weep for the crockery. Pissing slate or chopping boards everywhere these days.

I once had my banoffee pie served on a rough slate. I couldn't scrape all the yummy goo off properly because of the noise like fingernails on a blackboard Sad

And when my "fries" come in a little silver bucket thing with fake newspaper I want to ram a chip up the manager's nose.

I hate food on chopping boards, roof tiles or floor tiles. Pretentious fuckwittery.
I also can't be doing with coffee in long glass cups with teeny tiny handles, what's wrong with a mug?

A stack of four chips is an affront, when I order chips I expect at least 17.

Chips Jenga would be fucking amazing. I need to sell the concept and make me a fortune.

I don't know if it was a Jamie or not. It was an early bird pub dinner in a pub in Cumbria. It was just wrong, wrong, WRONG.
