I actually got up in the middle of the night and used room spray. He doesn't smell but my god his farts do. WIBU to ask him to sleep downstairs?

When we are following our usual low carb diet, (yes, even with lots of meat and green veg!) neither I nor Dh have bad wind, even poos are very non smelly.

Last couple of weeks, given the overeating of lots of things we don't normally have (alcohol, chocs, pastries, cakes, mince pies) and DH has been quite stinky. Looking forward to getting back on LC this week for many reasons!

I stopped farting entirely when I did low carb for 2 months. And I am a prolific farter and they smell beyond evil.

MrsT are you married to my DH too?

My DH smells lovely in himself, even without man-spray stuff (?) but at times, usually bedtime unfortunately, it smells like a rat has crawled up his bum and died. Putrid.

Dh has woken us both up with his terrible farts and he even has names for certain smells of farts. Nan farts, roast farts, Chinese farts. He's a truly gross creature. Although he has been a lot better lately but I don't know why.

Onions, they make farts smell sulphuric. I think meat does too. Since becoming Vegetarian I pass wind less, it's not smelly and i'm more regular on the toilet.

My DP sometimes wakes himself up farting, then growls FFS, FFS whilst waving his arms around.

I just told my DH about this thread and that I wanted to buy the fart quilt ($39.99), his response "good god no! It's half the fun in our marriage"......

Many years ago I had an ex who was mostly lovely, but sometimes farted in bed. Not only did they stink, if he was lying on his back they would make the entire bed shake. I took to calling them mattress-reverberators and still occasionally call a really big trump that to this day.

I had bouts of horrendous wind in the couple of years before I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. I'd urge anyone with regular probs in this area to consider whether there might be a medical problem.

I once shared a very small tent with my then vegetarian dh after spending the evening in a microbrewery in Moab, Utah where he ate black bean soup followed by black bean burrito, washed down with copious brown beer. I woke up from a dream of being suffocated. I swear the air in that tent was semi-solid.
We also have a (male) friend who was notorious for noxious farts until he eliminated dairy, he can eat cheese, however, without ill effects, including mascarpone instead of cream in desserts and cakes.

One of my cats does 'silent but deadlies'.

My DH has ulcerative colitis. when it flares up or actually before it flares up he farts almost continuously with an indescribable smell. that's how we now know he has an attack coming. I do think it is a sign that all is not right in his gut.

nicename Sun 05-Jan-14 11:54:43

Dogs farts are worse than people farts. Not very useful but an interesting fact. Not sure about cats, but their breath smells. Goldfish probably do fart but you can't really tell.

CrohnicallySick Sun 05-Jan-14 11:50:25

Is it just apples, or do any other foods give you the same symptoms?

Spermysextowel Sun 05-Jan-14 11:06:41

Child thank you for that. I get horrible pain ( to the point of doubling over & being unable to walk) if I eat apples. Is this a similar thing albeit with fructose or something?

onedayiwillmissthis Sun 05-Jan-14 10:41:36

We had quite a bit of cheese left over from the holidays...I divided it up into usefull size pieces...wrapped in cling film and put in freezer. many types of cheese can be frozen and even if taste/texture is slightly different it can always be used for cookingsmile

Spermysextowel Sun 05-Jan-14 10:41:27

C3PO this is helpful. Every 2/3 months we go to the cinema & now the boys are wary of going on a Sunday as they think the huge amounts of veg I give them with the roast are dangerous. Now I can tell them it's most likely the hot-dogs.

AnUnearthlyChild Sun 05-Jan-14 10:37:34

spermy in short, yes

Lactose is just the sugar thet is in milk. If you are intolerant then your body doesn't make the enzyme needed to digest the sugar.

The sugar then goes into the gut. Where there are loads of bacteria that don't usually expect to get sugar. So they go mad in a sugar frenzy. Which produces gas.

This gas leads to symptoms of bloating, pain and farting.

MrsLouisTheroux Sun 05-Jan-14 10:35:12

Well I think it's the cheese then!! What do I do with a fridge full of left over cheese now?! grin

My DH has IBS and when he has a flare up, the smell of his farts is unbelievable - it does wake me up.

It isn't his fault he has a nervous tummy & in fairness he does usual try to manage it with diet (very little dairy & we don't eat meat).

So I sympathise but have no advice. DH moans about my old, smelly dog (who I lurve) & I point out he should be grateful I love old, smelly creatures. And so the merry day goes on...

Spermysextowel Sun 05-Jan-14 10:26:31

Do you think that Gary Barlow engineered it that way? A sort of product placement thing? Think
Fart Think Gary?

C3P0 Sun 05-Jan-14 10:25:08

Try reducing processed meat in the diet. It creates an environment where sulphur loving bacteria thrive. You can get food supplements which aid digestion. Lactose won't matter. If he's intolerant he'd have the shits whenever he drank milk.

LineRunner Sun 05-Jan-14 10:19:38

I might fancy some fart pants for work. You know, just to be on the safe side.
