MY DD is going through a bit of a whiney, teary stage where she is thinking of no-one but herself, I have tried calmly talking to her she says sorry cries and said I don't know why I do it I wont do it again, but 5 mins later is back to being the same. I said to her older brother its a phase she is going through, but he thinks its just her lol. So can you tell me what your dd's are like so I can show him.

TIA

Horrible.

DD1 is 7 this month and she is a ball of whiny, tantrummy attitude.

She does things but claims not to know why, she doesn't care if we punish her for doing something she shouldn't. She has no care for anyone else or how anyone else might feel.

But there are good points to this age as well

And she turns the waterworks on at every opportunity. If this is age 7 i dread to think what teenage hormones will be.

Yup^^ All that is my dd2 (just turned 7) and still dd1 (nearly 9). I'd say I hope they grow out of it soon but teenage girls are worse apparently, lol.

I watch with interest :)
DD turns 7 in March. She is the youngest of 4 and has 3 older brothers. She is not particularly whiny and is fiercely independent and will fight her conrner in any argument :)

DD is 6, and absolutely lovely. Apparently they do go through a 'stage' at seven though. I have been warned.Grin My best friend had an awful time with her 7 year old, to the extent where she felt she had no connection with her etc. However, her DD is now 9 and they are back to having a fantastic relationship. Until teen years hit of course Grin

DD is 6yrs 8months. She is a loving, kind, thoughtful, caring, funny and dedicated little girl. She spends hours reading quietly and then hours tearing around being a superhero. She is patient with her brother, generous to a fault, sensitive to other people's feelings, considered in her responses and works hard at everything she tries. She has always been an utter pleasure.

It's probably personality though. DS is a whirling, fickle, challenging ball of fury.

The rhyme 'when she was good she was very good and when she was bad she was horrid' sums up my DD age 6.5. We have had a few months of whining and generally being difficult by refusing to do what she's told and lots of cheekiness. On the other hand her teacher cannot praise her behaviour enough and says she is a really lovely member of the class Confused

My DD is 6 and she is easy going, funny but very clingy! She hates to be apart from me and if she can sit on me she will.

This can be quite sweet but becomes very annoying over time Wink

Actually I should add that dd is on the whole lovely so far who knows what the next few years will bring :)

My DD is kind, thoughtful, bright, cheerful and mostly happy.

Until she gets tired...

Then she will cry for any reason, whinge about everything and if there is nothing to moan about she will make something up.

She'll be 6 next week and must admit this has only started in the last couple of months.

If I had had my DD first, I wouldn't have bothered with anymore. Luckily, I had DS. One of each. Lucky me Confused

My DD is 7.5 (has an older brother of 9) and she is neither whiny or tantrummy, in fact she's lovely :) She is pretty feisty and very good at sticking up for herself!

I remember dd used to get quite tired in the evenings at this age. Sometimes she would be tired after school but be better after she had had a rest. I used to have quite big rows with her after school sometimes. She is better now age 9 but now thinks she knows everything about everything.

Shrill.

I think that sums up DDs 7th year:)

Thank goodness I found this.

DD is 5.10 and the last 3 months has been a teary tantrumy mess especially when tired. She has always been easy going and very mindful of other people. It's like we have got the terrible 2s 3 years late. It's much harder to sling a tantruming nearly 6 year old over your shoulder than a 2 year old though.

I have two DDs now in their 20s. DD1 went through a phase pretty much like you're describing when she was seven/eight. DD2 was angelic at that age and had a wonderful, trouble-free early adolescence but then became the teen from hell when she hit 14. Both are now a complete delight. It's just a part of the growing process so grit your teeth, try to find and dwell on the good in your daughter even when she's being difficult, and know that it will pass!

The only thing that I have to add to this is that sometimes it can be a little bit more than a stage.
DD (now 8) had tearful 6-7 yrold stage and it was down to her class having been rearranged and some bullying behaviour from other students. This came out as rudeness and tears at home. Having worked through books on how to handle bullies and friendship, plus a word with the teachers who put her in a nurture group and kept a close eye on her, she is her normal cheerful slightly cheeky self.
I also try to keep in mind that it's not always easy being her-having a very different twin brother and an older brother with asd has its challenges and she is a star a lot of the time.

DD2 thought the world revolved around her at 6 and was awful if it didn't.

DNiece (7) has a good line in tantrums as did DFs TDDs at that age.

DD1 was perfectly reasonable at that age as was DNephew, but they are far more quietly confident and less prone to phases charecters.

Thanks for your replies.

Crossbag, this is not a girl thrashing, as Annie said its a parenting forum. Sometimes I think I must be doing something wrong, but mumsnet is a wonderful place to hear about other experiences.

Dd3 is 6 yrs and 8 months too and tbh is pretty much the easiest she's ever been. She's got the maturity now to know to shut up when instructed too and is generally less prone to losing her temper. She has always been a 'spirited' child Grin and I generally know what the potential problem points are. She is more settled at school now and complaining less. So I would say OP - no it's not just your dd. This is a tricky age and for some more than others. For my dd I would say it's an easier age though Grin
