AIBU?

Have you read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking??

Huge stretch of AIBU here but have posted elsewhere a no response...

I'm just about to start reading this, I quit while I was pregnant but quickly started back up after separating from my husband. I am now looking to kick the habit for good and wonder if anybody else has read this.

Did you rate it?

And most importantly, did it work for you?

Thanks

No I haven't read but whenever I hear or see anything about this I KNOW its not him but I imagine Alan Carr having written it and then chortle.

Yes. Got to page 7. It was like a switch flipped in my head. Stopped there and then, nearly 9 years ago. I was a 20 a day smoker for 13 years. Good luck. Smile

Yes, used it and it helped a lot. Still found it bloody hard to give up mind. But I did. Good luck!

I used it - it was the only thing that worked for me. Good Luck!

Yes, I used it successfully and so did my sister. It was my lightbulb moment (sorry cheesy but true!)

The book made me see that stopping wasn't a punishment and that smoking was a negative thing which I would be better off without rather than feeling sad and deprived.

I tried it and just couldn't get on with preachy/brainwashy tone tbh (Im aware that's the technique) - to much of a rebel me Grin

I am thinking of trying it again and ploughing through it all and catching myself whenever I get in 'forum' mode and quash those opinions deep down inside.

Take from that what you will Smile

read it, did nothing for me.

I have since quit, but about a year/18 months after reading.

It worked for me. I stopped in March and have not looked back. You have to want to be a non-smoker though. It's bloody boring, but keep at it!

Worked for me - non smoker for 12 years now.

Alan Carr (I always laugh too) didn't work for me I'm afraid. I was smoking at least 20 a day usually more for 16 years and very addicted. I also tried gum, patches, plastic cigs, EVERYTHING. Tried for years and nothing worked. Was recommended hypnotherapy and stopped completely after 2 sessions. Never wanted one since (15 years), even in a room full of smokers, at parties, out drinking. The hypnotherapist was attached to an NHS hospital but was a private practitioner. He told me that he was used by the NHS to help old guys on 80 a day who don't even want to quit but have to because of operations they are having. That cost me 80 pounds 15 years ago but not spent a penny on cigs since then. And I also got the session tapes to take home which made for heavenly deep sleeps

Yes. it made a lot of sense. I actually gave up in the end using nicotine patches, but reading his book was a key part of me giving up. Well worth buying, will not be a waste of your money.

I read it, was annoyed by the brainwashy type speak and it still worked for me so definitely worth it!

Alan Carr. That fucking fucker forced me to give up smoking. I wasn't even planning to. I loved smoking, 20 a day at least. I read it because a mate kept telling me it was wonderful, just so I could say a great load of cobblers it was. And then? I only fucking went and stopped smoking! Completely ruined it for me. 10 years, and I haven't touched a fag since.

(but the thing about having more money once you give up? I still haven't seen any evidence...)

Bastard.

Yes, shortly before I stopped smoking! Worked for me.

It was recommended to me by a friend who used it to quit. It did nothing for me I think mine was broken.

It just made me angry and I ended throwing it across the room as it irritated me so much.
I'ts just so repetitive, which is the technique I suppose, but brainwashing doesn't seem to work for me.
Everything he said, I thought yes I bloody know that.
I do know many people have sworn by it though.

Yes it does work and in fact it worked so well that 8 weeks later I thought ooh I can just have one...
I am currently re reading and won't make THAT mistake again. Read it and if it doesn't work you haven't lost anything but I hope it does for you!

Yep, four weeks ago. The book cost me 6.99 on my kindle and so it's already paid for itself thirty times over. Do it OP! Flowers
