AIBU?

or am I being over sensitive

The last 2 times I have been to someone's house for dinner I have given them a certain bottle of fizz as a thank you for having us. Today, they came round and brought me those same two bottles, given to me in a bag of "thank you for having us" shortbread and the like.

I took it as a bit of an insult, like the person was saying, I don't want this, have it back. I thought, maybe I am being a bit silly and they bought it for me because, I gave it to them, maybe they think I like it... But then, wouldn't they have bought me just one bottle and said "that bottle was very nice" I just feel like thy have returned my gifts to me...

It made me feel embarrassed and stupid, am I a completely over sensitive fool?

Either way... I'm drinking it

Maybe they don't like champagne and didn't want it wasted?

Just drink it (graciously).

It wasn't lambrini was it? Because rather than waste it they may have thought you would enjoy it?

They definitely like champagne, which is why I bought it for them, perhaps it's the brand that is the issue Xmas Hmm

Should have said, isn't a 'luxury' brand but nice supermarket

How do you know that they didn't drink it and thought that you liked it as well so bought you some of the same? Are you sure they are the exact bottles you took? Maybe they are just Champagne snobs.

In that case bring it round here, we could only afford prosecco. :)

How do you know they are exact same bottles? They may just be same brand bought for you

And if they don't drink champagne they are clearly weirdos and you should take pale ale next time;)

I think it's one as a present and one to drink and they've bought you that brand because they know you like it. is not able to imagine a world where fizz languishes in cupboards

I think I've done that but by mistake as we put the champagne presents in the cupboard along with our stash of champagne - it all gets mixed up.

I doubt it was an insult. Either they have bought you the same brand because they assume you like it (which is very thoughtful) or they have regifted and forgotten they were from you originally. The fact that they have gone to the effort of putting a thank you bag together at all suggests there is no malice intended. Anyone who knows champagne will know that the supermarket ones are actually generally pretty good!

I am fairly confident they are the same returned, when here she was saying (to someone else) how she couldn't fit all of her certain brand of bubbles in the fridge for all the guests she had coming later. I get the feeling my "cheap" £12 per bottle fizz was getting in the way ha

Perhaps they did buy it for me as they think I like it but seems a bit of a coincidence, I buy them 2 bottles over 2 visits and I get 2 the same back.

Know what not to buy in future if nothing else!

they probably couldn't remember who had given it to them in the first place so didn't realise what they were doing. or had forgotten to buy something to take, or perhaps they thought you liked it so purchased the same.

I wouldn't think twice about it, just enjoy the drink

No way, keep buying it! Then its like bubbles in the bank cos you'll get it back with interest (aka shortbread biscuits) when they come to yours!

Doesn't everyone security mark their gifts with UV pens so you can check back if they're being re-gifted - or is that just me?

(What sirzy said too)

Is this tongue in cheek or do you really do this?

Hold of them and next time you visit take one back. Treat it like a game of 'Ticky it' (or whatever you call it in your area).
