Bloody Grandma/Nan/Nanny Christmas Cards

Where is the Gran and Granny ones? Every year I have this battle.

Why oh why do they not sell any anymore? On the rare occasion I actually do find one it's always really pretty horrible or quite obvious it's mean to be from a child (which is fine when buying from DD but not when it's from me).

Anyone know if there is a shop hidden away anywhere which sells them?

Ha! We need to shop for each other I think.

I can never find the Nanny ones! I've seen Nannie though.

I'll pop back to this thread and see if anyone knows where to get one as I have the same problem. My mum is Granny to DS. Always has been, always will be. I will NOT buy a Nanny, Nan, Grandma card. This year, Granny isn't getting a card from him... just one from all of us. I searched every bloomin card shop for miles. Makes me sad.

Glad to hear I'm not alone. I thought I was weird!

I really dislike cards which are "personalised" for specific relationships. What is the point? Is either the donor or the donee in any doubt?

I'm not that keen on event specific cards either. It's much nicer to get a blank card of something which might be more meaningful to the recipient than a generic card.

Why does it have to be a special named card, they are such a waste of money!

Buy a normal card and address it how you like!!!

I have the same pain. My mum is Granny to my children and I can rarely find a card which says it for her birthday (or a Granny and Grandad card for Christmas, etc.).

For Christmas, I found two cards in Clintons which are for 'Granny and Grandad', if that helps anyone - I bought both to have one for this year and one for next.

I don't like these individually named cards either. I find them a bit weird and they are never very nice. I am aware that we are your "Daughter and Son-in-Law"!

Well, in that case, I'll tell my Mum that she's just being silly, and how dare she be pleased to get a card saying 'Nanny' on it.

FFS, stop being such killjoys. If you don't like it, why feel the need to post on the thread? It's hardly a big deal, is it? Just something nice that some people like. No need to piss on anyone's chips over it.

We have the same problem
My children's grandmothers are both Granny (with first name following)
Round here, local usage = Nan / Nana and cards tend to say that.

We don't send Christmas cards but I do like personalised birthday cards. If I see one that says Granny I buy it, regardless of time of year!

Will have a look in there hulahooper thank you.

farewellfigure You are not weird, I know tons of people this drives up the wall. I always end up on moonpig spending a fortune haha.

Caitlin Does there need to be a point other than most people like to receive to a special Granny/Mummy/Uncle card? I'm sorry I don't get it, I love getting my Mummy and Auntie cards. It's not about the receipt being in doubt of the relationship I think it's really just a nice gesture.

Exactly MissWinter - my sister loves getting 'Auntie' cards that my dc have written it for her - she thinks they're lovely.

Why that's an issue for other people, I don't know.

M&S have a few. They have gran, grandma, granny, nan etc

I presume they are hidden in the same place as the elusive "Auntie" cards - I manage to find one (eventually) every year but usually have to traipse to a bigger card shop and then there's very little choice. The things is I go to loads of places with a small selection of cards (e.g. newsagents and corner shops) and they almost always have nephew and niece cards but very rarely have "Auntie" cards - like they don't realise that if there's a nephew/niece there's probably and auntie in the picture too.

The big card shops like big branches of Clintons - or, say, a large Asda that has a whole aisle of cards are probably your best bet. Good luck!

Well said Heartbroken. Maybe they think we'll go 'OOOOH they're naff. Better stop buying them then', like some kind of weird epiphany!

We never used to buy them as a family. Then when my Dad died 5 years ago my Mum went all sentimental and started buying them for everyone so we returned the favour. There, that'll shut them up.

Weird and not very nice? Or maybe really quite heartfelt and meaningful. Maybe.

Ladies, I think we could start up a chain of specialist card shops haha.

And I will say I like "wasting" my money on buying something that I know my family will appreciate. To me that is not a waste.

I've actually found it so tough this year we made cards from DD but I still need to find them from me Hmm

If I was Granny, I would rather get a card with Grandma on than none at all to be honest..

You know what doesn't exist? Cards for a great-nan...

I had one made this year from someone on etsy. It was super cute, and my 94 year old nan got to be recognised by my (two month old) son. It's not the most important thing in the world, but she was pleased, and that's enough for me.

This is why I love Moonpig, Tesco cards etc. Nice cards and you can put whichever name you like on.
I make my own when I can, but when I can't those types of website are fantastic.
You can normally get a deal so they work out cheaper than the ones on the high street.

Card Factory has the most specific cards I have ever seen. I'd be surprised if there weren't a card to one's driving instructor from the dog.

But what's wrong with a "normal" (non-specific) card Confused?

Another we couldn't get was Great-Great Gran but then I can kind of understand that one. Can't imagine there are many lucky little girly's that get to meet theirs.

Thanks for all the ideas, I'll be trailing the shops tomorrow :-)

PS - I feel your pain, my dad choses to be known as Papi. No where in England sells cards with that on, hence monpig Xmas Wink .
