AIBU?

to want my christmas cards to spread the joy at christmas, and not chastise me

I just want my christmas cards to say happy christmas or seasons greetings or even happy holidays.

what i do not want is chastisements for not getting in touch, preachy missives about the state of the world, floods, Phillapines, people being stuck in jobs they hate ... by this i mean a general moan about all of these things. if it were personal to them i'd get it but random witterings piss me off.

I mean where is your fecking christmas spirt? does it not depress you to write such drivel.

what makes you think that I have the time to read such drivel, when i have eleventy million things to do before the big day or that this will induce me to pick up the phone so i can hear more of your morose selfindulgent waffling?

AIBU ?Grin

this week alone.....

i had one that started... since you never sent me a card last year i dont know wether this is the right address (from a girl i went to school with 26 years ago- i missed one christmas card a couple of years ago becuase i had the choice between christmas cards and food - was made bankrupt the following april)

One from a person i last saw 8 years ago when i left my hometown and moved 300 miles away... you never call and i havent even met your daughter yet

and yet another that just rambled on..... i honestly felt like i was in church listening to the sermon.

Just WHY???????

Perhaps you have more than your share of eccentric acquaintances. Chastising somebody through a card for not being in touch is beyond weird!

I gave a 'One for all' Christmas card to the place where I used to work. The staff changes on a weekly basis. I didn't want to write down names of people who may not be there anymore so I wrote something along the lines of 'all of you' - not exactly that. Handed over card to member of staff who I know that IS still there and got 'Oh is this for ALL of us?'. YES IT IS. I AM SO EFFING SORRY FOR NOT WRITING 50 CARDS IN BETWEEN CHANGING NAPPIES, FEEDS, WASHING, COOKING, IRONING AND BEING A CARER TO MY PARENTS.

Merry Christmas all Xmas Grin

I just wrote 'Wifey' in mine to hubby. No problems there, he's under no illusion how I feel about him and how my world revolves around him. All that's summed up in that one word for us and I'd not expect anyone else to understand.

I've never had anything like that in any card I've ever got, cheeky buggers, I'd send them back with a snotty comment sprawled across, lol

Every year we get a card from Aunty Olga.

Neither of us has an Aunty Olga. There's never a return address.

I sometimes wonder if we are being Janet and Roy'd.

There is a poster on here, whose Grandfather, when he receives a card wishing him a Happy Christmas, writes "and to you!" inside the card and returns it to the sender.

Thats the way to do it.

Well you've got a good way of deciding who to send cards to next year haven't you?! Anyone who sends you a whingey message should be struck from the list and never worried about again :).

My favourite ever card was from DF and DF partner (not their real names)

"Peter/Jane"

No from, no to, no message, no kisses. Just name-slash-name. Grin

That is the funniest thing I've heard all day. Love it!

That's funny fivegolddeblooms because I almost feel the opposite.
I wouldn't care if I DH didn't ever buy me a present but woe betide him if he forgets my Christmas card! Grin

Minshu Grin. I like her name as well. We always put the card up.

I don't mind claiming a new relative. She gives us no trouble for the rest of the year, so she's an improvement on many of the others. Grin
