AIBU?

To be furious!!!

I was in the bath with DS who is 13 weeks old. Me and DP bath with him sometimes then the other lifts him out dries him and gets him warm.

So tonight I get in the bath with DS and DP goes and watches tv for 5 minutes after refusing to do the pots, brilliant start.

Me and DS are having a lovely time he's kicking like mad and smiling. After a good 10 minutes I started shouting DP thinking he'd forgot. So I kept shouting over and over and banging on the glass wondering where he was.
So I filled the bath with more warm water as he was getting cold. Another 10 minutes passed and DS was getting cold again and was fed up. So I shouted and shouted and no reply. I had to get on my knees in the bath and get out with him as careful as I could which is dangerous in my opinion it's easy to slip in a bath.

I wrapped him up as quick as I could and walked into the living room pissed off. He wasn't there, I went up the stairs and he was fast asleep on the bed!!!! Angry

I am absolutely furious I shouted for him to get up and told him how we'd been waiting ages and could have slipped getting out of the bath.
He said "I told you I was tired Sad" in a whingy tone

What a moron!!!! I am fuming Angry

He's a moron for being so tired he fell asleep, or perhaps he did it purely to puss you off Confused

To be honest it sounds like you're both stressed & tired which is understandable with such a little baby
I'd let this one go to be honest

A moron? Really? Get a grip!

I really can't see the problem tbh, I'd have just got out- it can be that difficult surely?

Really ?!

It's unlikely that he fell asleep on purpose, you have no reason to be furious. That is over reacting.

Be mildly pissed off instead.

He sounds like a fucking manchild. Make damn sure he's got sole responsibility for all nighttime nappy changes and early wake ups for the next fortnight. Let him see what 'tired' looks like.

I'm not sure I would let it go tbh - why did he refuse to do the pots? Will he do them later or does it now fall to you?

If this is how you normally do bath time then he needs to stick to the plan.

How big is your house? Could he hear you? Surely he wasn't in that much of a deep sleep? He was ignoring you calling him. YANBU to be annoyed.

Having said that, you really don't need him to help you get out of the bath.

If he hadnt been at home, what would you have done? Coped with getting you and the baby out of the bath or just not had one? And if it's that hard to get out of the bath, just bathe your DS without you being in with him. I get that partners need to do their fair share but this is mad.

Annoying at the time yes but really need to let it go unless there is more to it, it's not the end of the world.

Has he been out at work all day?

He won't do the pots "cause he's tired" I dare say he doesn't know the meaning of tired. I get up every morning with DS, and do all the house work, cooking and everything. He pretty much has sat watching tv for the past few days "watching" DS. Which means being in the same room whilst he sleeps.

He doesn't even work many hours and makes my life as hard as possible. I don't understand how you could fall asleep whilst your baby is in the bath waiting for you to come get him, he only stays in for 5 minutes! Confused

I know it's not the end of the world but it doesn't half piss you off when DP does next to fuck all anyway and then falls asleep. If I had fallen and hurt my baby I'm sure I wouldn't be told to "get over my self"!

Does it really take two of you to bath your Ds?

I'd be pissed at refusing to do the pots more than anything.

It was less than thoughtfull of him to do that but if this is a one off i'd talk to him calmly and let it go.. You can make sure he makes up doing extra bathtime/nappy changes :)

If he's not here I bath him alone, but cause DP was here we decided it'd be nice for me to bath with him.

He hadn't been out at work and he'd slept in til 10 this morning!

Just feel likes he's a massive let down a lot of the time. I do realise I'm overreacting but it's not the only time he lets me down, so it makes me angrier that he doesn't do his bit IYSWIM. It's him who always worries I'd slip getting out with DS funnily enough, so you'd think he'd be on the ball!

Both DH and I could easily fall asleep within five minutes these days.

I'd be pissed off at the refusal to help with the pots but the bath thing is no big deal as you could have quite easily just got out Confused

Is this a wind up?
You couldn't get out of the bath with your baby??

Report
Donkeylovesmarzipanandmincepie · 10/12/2013 19:29

It sounds like the routine works normally, this time it didn't; tempting to say if DP had done the pots he would have stayed awake.

I don't blame you for being cautious with your baby in the bath. Did you have DS by CS, you probably needed that extra help initially, it's probably a while before you feel fully confident again.
