Are you talking about the formula/third world thing?

Report

I read about this earlier.

The same nestle who think that water isn't a basic human right...

Baby killing machine is a bit strong, but no, the NHS should not be partnering Nestle.

Listen Im aware of the whole Nestle thing, I think we all are..

But baby killing machine? Really? Cop on to yourself. Do we have to list every single thing that you would have to boycott to avoid nestle? Cos if we did Im sure you would find yourself part of the baby killing machine too..

Yes a baby killing machine. You know the ones who thrust a few weeks free formula on mothers in the 3rd world. Just enough to get them past their breast milk drying up forcing them to buy formula at a price similar to their rent every month, with no clean water to use with it. Killing thousands of babies.

The ones who are stealing water from under villages lowering their water table and saying they have no human right to it.

The ones who produce pretty shoddy food all over which isn't akin to a healthy lifestyle.

Them.

I have a list of their products. I don't find it hard to avoid them. I just buy other brands.

I don't buy nestle products because of their marketing of formula in countries where often women wont be able to make it with clean water or afford enough for the baby to be healthy.

it puts the whole BF/FF SAH/WOH debates into perspective.

It's nothing to do with breastfeeding, change4life is about leading a healthy lifestyle no?

Nestlé are totally at liberty to use change for life material to make their staff healthier.

They shouldn't get a plug on the Change for life website.

No formula, baby food or processed food or drink manufacturer should.

Unfortunately, I believe C4L has had it's funding massively cut and I don't know if it's having to look else where.

Yanbu. I am appalled. NHS are a disgrace for doing this.

Nestle UK flogs junk food. Their cereals are loaded with sugar & crap. Why oh why are change4life partnering with them?!?

You think Nestle are a good partner for this?

Lots of us avoid Nestle quite easily. They probably don't care but I feel better knowing I never contribute to their coffers. I hate them.

Main article: 2008 Chinese milk scandal
In late September 2008, the Hong Kong government found melamine in a Chinese-made Nestlé milk product. Six infants died from kidney damage, and a further 860 babies were hospitalised.[41][42] The Dairy Farm milk was made by Nestlé's division in the Chinese coastal city Qingdao.[43] Nestlé affirmed that all its products were safe and were not made from milk adulterated with melamine. On 2 October 2008, the Taiwan Health ministry announced that six types of milk powders produced in China by Nestlé contained low-level traces of melamine, and were "removed from the shelves".[44]

Just Google Nestle and Controversy and there is a long list if scan flea that are only rectified when they are publicised World Wide.

The trading practices and now the repiping of water does and will cause death/starvation/disease etc.

"Nestlé are totally at liberty to use change for life material to make their staff healthier."

Let's use total honesty, the only staff they care about are those at the high end, then they are partly concerned about seeming to care about the staff in the Developed World, the rest are just profit fodder, including the child labourers that they were given no choice but to admit to.

I had noticed alot of mnetters boycott nestle, but I never actually paid my attention as to why. I tassumednit was to do with palm oil or something like that.

What an eye-opening thread! Off to look into it all more.

Where would you draw the line though? I see your point (although not the necessity for inflammatory language) but from an ethical perspective every large FMCG company that would want to be involved in this kind of sponsorship probably shouldn't be. Which is why they want to be involved - good PR. If you need the money and it's been cut by government then it's a catch-22.
