My DD7 has just decided that she has to watch Star Wars. Am I being unreasonable to completely ignore the 3 newer films and jump straight in to the 'good' ones?

We've watched IV, V and VI but are holding off on the later ones specifically because III is so dark - and our DDs are the kind who get nightmares.

Ha ha! Our kids have grown up with Star Wars toys in this house, most of them are mine and DH's. grin

Gruntled Sun 08-Dec-13 09:03:35

We are starting with IV this morning. I just hope it doesn't mean I'll need to start buying the toys as well!

Don't forget to film her face when she finds out who Darth Vader is.

Morgause Sun 08-Dec-13 05:24:49

There are only three Star Wars films. fgrin

There are only three films.

DH drives DD nuts by saying the lines just before the actors do. smile

original trilogy first

then the rest

may the Force be with you!

I love Star Wars! But of the new three Revenge of the Sith is definitly the best. A phantom Menace is all about the special effects and Attack of the clones is ok but nothing compared to the original three. Revengenof the Sith is the only one I consider to be a good film. But it ruins the effect of "I am your father" if you watch it before the Empire Striles Back.

I started DS off on Episode 4 and we went in order they were made - he's 8 now and it doesn;t seem to have scarred him for life.

BeaWheesht Sun 08-Dec-13 00:28:56

Ds much prefers the old ones.

but then he loves ghostbusters and home alone and the old it's a wonderful life...

Harrison Ford is in them. Enough said.

ShylaMcClaus Sun 08-Dec-13 00:08:51

They have spaceships and Harrison Ford drama and pathos and Harrison Ford romance and action shock

squoosh Sun 08-Dec-13 00:05:13

They are all deadly dull.

YABU let her watch them all! My kids love them. Great story including the first ones.

Glad I found this thread. We are not a Star Wars family but DS2 who us 6 in Jan is obsessed and had asked for the films for Christmas and we would have no idea what order to show them.

MuddlingMackem Sat 07-Dec-13 23:52:23

Funnily enough our DD aged 7 has also just decided she wants to watch Star Wars. We started with A New Hope last night and will work our way through them, but episode III will be a while off, it is too gruesome for her.

However, the revelation won't have any impact on her, we're a big Star Wars following family so she already knows all the background. grin

Oh go on, do CruCru's suggested order - it's called Machete order and it's one of the pinnacles of geek culture.

However, I think a 7 year old would probably actually enjoy episode 1; the pod race and Sodding Jar Jar Binks are very appealing at that age, so maybe do:

But you might have to use your skill and judgement about whether to do part III, because it is quite harrowing. I wish there was a heavily cut PG version that younger children could watch, but although you could edit the fights the actual events are upsetting in and of themselves.

So, these are not the DVDs I'm looking for....

TheNaughtySausage Sat 07-Dec-13 21:49:28

I have a bad feeling about this.

ds (whose name just so happens to be luke) is soooo looking forward to getting his first mobile phone so he can file dh's number as 'darth vader' grin

CruCru Sat 07-Dec-13 21:39:44

If you do show the newer ones, the best order is

Episode I is enjoyed by kids but is not needed for the story.
