That I can't get pissed at Christmas!
I'm going to be the only sober one there and booze is normally what helps to make the whole thing less annoying and more easy going!

I hope I don't get left in charge of everyone's kids because I will be sober - I can't be arsed.

So I'm going to have to lay down the rules early which will make me look like a miserable beeyatch - which I suppose I am! Is that unreasonable or should I sort of take my turn as childminder of the day hoping that I'll get the favour back one day??

Roll on Xmas 2015 - it's my turn to get SHITFACED!! (Except then I'll have two kids under three years old....,. So maybe roll on Xmas 2030! Woo hoooooo!)

God almighty lay some ground rules down, your not being miserable, I would be more than furious if everyone decided to get so drunk they couldn't look after kids on Christmas Day because I was pregnant and expected me to look after them all.

I never got the whole getting drunk thing on Christmas day but each to their own. I always end up driving DH's family around the arse end of no where as none of the muppets drive despite basically living in a field.

YANBU in not wanting to be the babysitter but I wouldn't lay out ground rules unless they ask outright. If it is an assumed role then just don't do it. End of.

I generally get a bit tipsy in the evening before we play the new board game on Christmas Day. Makes it more fun.

Also congratulations OP! And you're not being miserable not wanting to mind all the kids. Just lie down on the couch and watch telly - you need rest in your condition Wink

I didn't mind the children when I was preg at Christmas but facing the cooking was awful, I hope that's not your job too.

Okay okay for the serious folk amongst you - I should have exactly clarified that I mean a few glasses of fizzy over the course of the day... I've always been a bit of a lightweight so never been the paralytic type.
Shock horror - someone starts a thread for FUN on aibu.
Blimey. The poor poor children, won't somebody think of the children??!!!

Christmas is all about the drinking! Starting with bucks fizz for breakfast, continuing through wine and G&Ts, and ending with a Baileys or some such. Glad I'm not related to any of the po-faced sanctimommy pearl clutchers who've commented to the contrary, Christmas with them must be a riot of sober board games and orange juice :)

Unfortunately, I had to do the sober thing last year due to being pg. And again this year due to breastfeeding. I can confirm it's a bit shit, so you have my sympathy. Waitrose do quite a nice Bavarian alcohol free beer you can get so you feel like you have something on the day? M&S also do a lovely 0.5% one that is only 1/3 of a unit per large bottle.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Also, tonic water and lime tastes like a slightly shit G&T. But a G&T nonetheless :)

no feel your pain.

try alcohol free wine really chilled or beer? I liked this when I was pregnant.

getting tipsy while cooking Christmas dinner is the law here, the nice thing now is our older lads pour one did me and themselves too and we get merrily tipsy together.

Grin

wow, what a lot of dull people you must spend time with. I don't drink because I don't like the stuff, but the rellies will be having a few beers and some wine. No-one will be drunk though, and they are fun people with or without alcohol.

if everyone needs to swill the stuff to have fun, they must be real no-lifes. As is the person who comments that people who don't drink are boring. No, m'dear. DRUNKS are boring.

Sod that Christmas and alcohol go hand in hand. Then you can chortle at those bodys swivelling in a circle on the sticks up their arses.

Yes, because you HAVE to drink to be a fun person. Not drinking makes you dull and boring. Of course. Hmm

I drink, but I bloody hate when people imply that those who don't drink (or take drugs) are 'boring.' Getting 'shitfaced' is terrible for your health. And I do pity children who are watching the adults around them getting that drunk.

OP congrats on your pregnancy. Can you have some nice fizzy juice? Not the same as champagne I know, but shloer is yummy.
