to be fucking livid after yet another cock-up at work?

have had a million ongoing problems at work which recently culminated in me being signed off with stress and grievance being submitted.

last week was my first week back and i got "paid" yesterday and over half my wage is missing, they have put my sick pay through as unauthorised absence. they said it would be sorted yesterday and i'm still fucking waiting. head office is closed at the weekend so cant chase anyone up.

i'm a single mum, i don't have cash to fall back on in a situation like this, it's two sodding weeks before christmas and i have a son to feed and bills to pay and all i got was an "oh we've put it through wrong we'll sort it for you" no apology, nothing, and they haven't even bloody sorted it.

That is really bad. Assuming they pay directly into your bank account there is nothing they can do over the weekend. However insist that they deal with this as a matter of urgency on Monday morning.
They can do a same day transfer but it must be done before noon, they will not want to do this as it costs them money.

Head office might be closed but email now anyway. That way, if head office opens at 9am Monday, you can call at 9:15 and simply say "I've emailed you the full details of the problem. It needs to be resolved this morning. I can not wait until next payday as I will not have enough money to feed my son. If you can not sort this now, put me through to a senior member of staff or manager who can".

Don't take no for an answer. Bank transfer Monday.

Don't let them put you off. One place I worked had a pay cock up on a Friday once. The next Monday there was a queue of (including some quite high paid) staff outside Finance being paid in cash. It took them a couple if hours to get the money together for upwards of 600 staff so one person should not be a challenge.

do stress the hardship aspect. I work in payroll & `i do try that little bit harder/ go the extra mile for people I feel sympathy.

i would email but we only have a phone number for wages dept. and i tried on the off chance but got no answer. when they said they would sort it i assumed it meant i would get my wage later in the day. i made contact about 10am when i checked the bank so well before noon.

i have enough to see me through the weekend but they don't know that. because i'm at the lowest end of the company i get the impression they dont really give a fuck.

I know it's hard but i think you need to calm down tbh. Payroll staff are human beings and make mistakes like anyone else. Like anyone else they won't be inclined to break their backs to help someone who speaks to them in the tone you're posting here.

Not saying you're wrong to be annoyed but if you want them to help you quickly you need to be nice!

Its probably not payroll's mistake - they will have taken the absence info from what your boss told them

I had a PayRoll Cock Up a few years back.
I've been in my workplace for over 15 years now (relevant) and one January they paid me something ludicrous like £4.70. It was that small an amount.
When I phoned them they said it was a Tax Cock Up Tax would be sorted out March/April.

"Well if we give you your proper pay, it'll affect your Tax in April"

"It's end of January. (And we all know January is a 5 week month if you get paid early in December) > I'll deal with April when it arrives"

But why on earth would someone authorise this and think "Oh £4.70 , that looks right"

An employer is legally obliged to pay you in full each month and also HAS to sort it out ASAP. So while I agree the OP should be polite to payroll, they're obliged to sort it sooner rather than later even if she isn't.

They can do you a CHAPS payment on Monday that would be in your bank account by midnight.

I feel sorry for payroll staff - bet people get paid right for 10 years but the one mistake that a (human) staff member makes is all they remember.

or a same-day bill payment which take a couple of hours max , or even cash.

A similar thing has just happened to me this month. Payroll were quite clueless about what had happen, so I spoke to HR and they sorted it out with payroll for me. It took them 5 working days for them to pay me the missing pay, and I had to ring to chase twice, but to be honest going off previous experience I was expecting worse so was pleasantly surprised they sorted it so quickly!

There may be a chance they have sorted the problem but the payment takes a couple of days to clear. I think most payroll systems work out wages on day A and set them to go out on day B and then arrive in account on day C, If they have put the missing amount through using the same system it could be on it's way but not showing up yet.

Minor, I doubt you'd be so understanding if it was you in the OP's situation.

It's easy to say that payroll staff make mistake too, but when you need that money urgently it's just not on.

Op doesn't need the money urgently, she's said she's ok for the weekend but it's nothing to do with being understanding, just recognising the human fact that if you want people to help you it pays to be nice/polite

Minor- i was perfectly nice and understanding to them on the phone- it was Mr. Payroll who was dismissive and unapologetic. i understand we all make mistakes but when it's something as important as this i would at least be apologetic about it and actually do something. i came on here for a rant i'm not rude or stupid enough to swear at a senior member of staff.

i have been through it all with my manager to make sure she did things right before i contacted payroll and she followed all the procedures- the mistake is definitely their end.

just found out he called her (my boss) at 4pm, so six hours later.

this happened to me on my 18th, supposedly after I'd been working at this place for a year someone realised I was being paid the over 21 rate and docked the difference off my pay. I had no way of knowing as I did loads of overtime which was paid rather haphazardly and hourly rates were not publicised. payday being 18th birthday, got paid about a pound :(

in all fairness manager gave me the last month's pay out of petty cash the next day but I was skint that night!

that last time it happened to me HR told the jobcentre ( ex bf had a claim for income support or something) that i worked 72 hours a week instead of a month, so they stopped his money and we couldn't pay our rent or eat.

Should she buggery play the 'hardship card'. Everyone has bills and direct debits and banks that charge for overdrafts. Will her company pay bank charges due to their error?

Human or not, they should have sorted it out (even with an interim payment) on Friday.

Not good enough.

I worked for an FE college who regularly failed to pay me. They failed to pay me my last pay. I emailed the chief executive and went out for the morning. The series of emails and calls were just hilarious and the money was in my account by 11.00

Thanks Nanny, as i say i do understand that people make mistakes and contrary to the assumptions made by a couple of posters i was very pleasant on the phone.

it was the way things went after i told them aboyt the mistake- no apology, no indication of when i would get paid, and more concerned avout shifting blame to my manager to cover their own backs.

direct debits etc were due off today but as it's saturday they wont go through till monday and hopefully i wont be charged and money will be there. the rest will juat have to wait .

If you incur any charges for late payment you can claim this off of the company, usually you will need to provide evidence.
