To not be so bothered that neighbour is now pissed off with me? (boring xmas lights thread)

Ok so myself and neighbour share a hedge, its actually on my property so my hedge, but separates both houses. For an eternity, every single christmas, neighbour likes to invite poundland to throw up in her garden choose carefully selected christmas lights to make her house look as trashy as possible.

This is my ds's first christmas where he will notice things and hes already loving the lights we see in shops so i thought i'd buy a large net of lights to put over this hedge, be a bit different from neighbours 2 lines of fairy lights. I also bought 2 large snowflake things for the front windows and some stars to go around the door. As i was putting them up this morning neighbour came back from doing her shopping and just stood there staring with her mouth wide open in horror, i said hiya, she said hiya back then went in.

Dp says i should have asked her if it was ok - err ask her if its ok to put christmas lights on my own hedge? Im not even that bloody bothered about them just thought it would be nice for ds to look at, which is why ive never bothered doing anything like this before.

Now neighbours have been arguing all day about various things but they keep coming back to the bleeding lights and how ive apparently taken over? (walls are paper thin, they argue quite a lot, never about christmas lights though) Should i just take them down? I dont really see why the fuss if im honest but she is a bit obsessive about everything, for example shes the type to put her wheely bin in her parking space right outside her house. She hates anyone parking within an inch of her house, yet her and her teenage children can park where they feel like. So the great christmas lights debacle of 2013 will keep her moaning for quite a while.

Ignore her. It's your hedge and your lights sound nicer anyway wink

This is the kind of thing I'd enjoy every minute of.

She needs to get a grip tbh, I don't see what the problem is!!

A hedge has two sides.

jeanmiguelfangio Sat 30-Nov-13 21:01:26

She may be offended because you are using tasteful lights- go get a light up Santa doing something ridiculous
Your hedge your rules (now there's a sentence I never thought I'd type)

Chippednailvarnish Sat 30-Nov-13 21:02:07

Put more lights up, start playing loud Christmas carols and invite the neighbours around for a mince pie and mulled wine evening.

That will really piss on her fire.

Taz1212 Sat 30-Nov-13 21:03:51

Oh my, I'd just be glad I'd reclaimed my hedge. grin

My hedge, my rules! Ill remember that saying if things turn ugly tomorrow!

To be honest though we've got the x factor on mute while we listen to them argue, so far the husbands lost £100, everyones a cunt and someone had sex in the house while he was having a wobbly - think thats what they said, they do need to work on pronunciation a bit more grin

Only a matter of time before my poor christmas lights are revealed as the ture culprits of the arguement!

RoseRedder Sat 30-Nov-13 21:05:03

Could it be because its not actually December yet?

MrsPnut Sat 30-Nov-13 21:06:10

Just ignore and smile sweetly at her at every meeting. Your lights sound great.

1980schick Sat 30-Nov-13 21:07:32

rose Nope, shes had her window lights up since last monday! Thought id put ours up before she got the chance to take over said hedge again with her broken lights.

Hedge wars, may pitch this to sky!

WestieMamma Sat 30-Nov-13 21:08:13

You put your lights and your side, she puts hers on her side. Where's the problem?

CaptainSweatPants Sat 30-Nov-13 21:08:29

Jeez your Walls are really thin!!

bundaberg Sat 30-Nov-13 21:10:19

i really think you need MORE lights.

but only after she has got more of her own.

THEN you produce your extra ones. this thread could run and run ;-)

Shenanagins Sat 30-Nov-13 21:12:33

Yabu but only because its still November!

headlesslambrini Sat 30-Nov-13 21:13:23

my guess will be that you will end up with a large inflatable santa outside your window within a week.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights Sat 30-Nov-13 21:18:56

I like how hers are making her house look 'trashy' but yours are OK grin

flaire Sat 30-Nov-13 21:19:12

I think you need a sparkling giant reindeer - that would silence the neighbour.

Oh and definitely a life size Santa and Sledge on your roof.

And failing that a huge Nativity scene with camels and a dayglow Baby Jesus.

Marking place. I suspect this might be a thread that keeps on giving...

WhenSarahAndStuckUpTheChimney Sat 30-Nov-13 21:21:46

Could the sex have happened while he was on holiday rather than wobbly?

Is there any way you could ask at a later date?

Taz1212 Sat 30-Nov-13 21:21:50

No, no no, what you need are pink flamingos wearing Santa hats.

flaire Sat 30-Nov-13 21:22:46

Taz1212 Genius!

Binkyridesagain Sat 30-Nov-13 21:25:10

I think that a full nativity scene(with lobsters) would look lovely, you could use the hedge lights to frame the scene.

nickelbabe Sat 30-Nov-13 21:26:12

I'm marking my place too.

how come it's okay for her to put lights on your hedge but you mayn't? does she know it's your hedge?
