Pretty much every time I go shopping, I want something which I think is perfectly simple, commonplace and reasonable but which turns out to be a nightmare to try and find.
This time I wanted to buy some jogging pants/tracksuit bottoms which were a) petite and b) had a pocket in them. How difficult can it be? I even did some research online first to ascertain the likeliest shops.
Then, this evening I spent 3 hours traipsing around stores across a big city centre - high street clothes shops, sports clothing shops, department stores etc. Not a sausage.
So today's shopping bugbears:
- So many shops only sell trousers in one leg length. I can't imagine a shop just selling one dress size because that's what the 'average' woman is so why can't they realise that some women are taller or shorter than average?
- Why the dearth of (useful, practical) pockets on women's clothes? Are women expected to jog with a handbag? I particularly hate the trend for clothes with 'pocket detail' so you're briefly conned into thinking they have
a pocket but actually they've just gone to the effort of making it look like it's got a pocket without actually giving you a pocket.
Even M & S, which is usually good for having this kind of stuff, didn't come through - They were one of the few shops that had 'petite' jogging pants but not with pockets - Taller people were allowed pockets but only if they wore beige.
It isn't just clothes shopping I have this problem with - Shoe shopping is a pain if you are a half-size with slightly wider than average feet. It's not like I'm particularly unusually-built - I'm not two-foot tall with feet like a duck but I might as well be when I go shopping!
