Is an embarrassment to society. How can anyone be that thick?

Oh I feel sorry for him. I don't know how someone can get to that age and not be able to tell the time! Why did no one teach him? He seems like a lovely lad, telling Mathew he'd give him his dinner....

I believe it has been reported elsewhere that as a child he had learning difficulties and SEN.
My child has SEN and some people are very quick to be judgemental without knowing the whole facts!

YABU! Joey is lovely. There's more to a person than intelligence. I was 21 before I grasped the 24 hour clock and I'm by no means thick!

I know ,but you can tell he is a genuinely nice guy. How can that be an embarrassment to society ? You can get someone with a high IQ who acts like a dick - that's worse IMO !!

I think it's known that he has SEN.

Also ,I have a cousin who is the least academic of us all BUT because of her amazing social skills she is actually doing better than all of us !!

i knew a 19 year old girl who coukdnt tell the time. she said what joey said - she would just look at her phone if she needed to know the time

Plenty of people are that "thick" as you put it.

Thankfully he seems to have many redeeming features, in that he's kind, polite and has great social skills. I had no idea who he is, I haven't watched any of those reality shows, but he seems to be a lovely boy. And if he has battled SEN, as someone ^^ said, then YABU to judge.

I think he comes across very well and he reflects very well on society in that despite being unable to tell the time and perhaps not being super intelligent he is doing alright for himself.

Nice.

My OH can't read the time. Yet he runs a hugely successful business, has won awards, does a lot of work for charity, speaks at conferences, gives workshops. He's a wonderful husband and father.

But yes. Thick.

Who are you to judge on someone who can't tell the time.

I think it's pretty nasty calling someone 'thick'

I think he is adorable, I had never heard of him until this wee

I say that as someone whose DD had SEN and is dyslexic. It's not the end of the world and find it extremely offensive that you call him thick.

My DH can only write in capital letters. He failed all his O levels. He was written off as thick. He's now MD of his own, extremely successful international company.

What a charmer calling him "thick" people come in all shapes and sizes in life that includes the various forms of intelligence, and academic intelligence is one of many.

Joey's Mum passed away when he was a boy, he has SEN and was brought up by his dad and sister who is close in age. I understand Chloe his cousin and her Dad helped bring him up. Chloe is about ten years older and had been abandoned by her Mum when she was a small girl.

Joey is absolutely brilliant!!! I'm Team Essex all the way!!

I am a big fan of TOWIE (can I admit that on MN) and he is just the nicest, sweetest guy - he's probably the only character in the show that I couldn't say anything negative about. He is what he is and that's a great character trait to have Smile

I really hope he wins!!! I bet he does Grin

I would say that people who have an attitude like yours are more of an embarrassment to society to be honest.

So what if he isn't the cleverest on the planet, he seems a nice and caring young man who has had his fair share of shit in his life.

PoppyInTheFog · 19/11/2013 10:34

Also OP, the reason Joey's Mum passed away was due to her taking her own life. Maybe she had similar issues to her son and was ridiculed for it, who knows?

I don't think the OP will be back on this thread!

I don't think he is adorable he seems a decent lad and all that but i wouldn't feel sorry for him he has a nice life without being able to tell the time his priorities in life are different thats all he likes his tan money and range rover I think he is quite shallow but nice enough most of the towie people are like him infact loads of people are like him they are not an embarrassment to society ,

Report
PoppyInTheFog · 19/11/2013 10:49

I agree MrsJay, he does seem to priorities person grooming in his life.

It makes me smile when the others use Joey's terms to for example describe girls as being a "salty potato"

Also, my partner can't spell to save his life and his handwriting is atrocious. Many would see him as thick - what they don't know is that the only thing stopping him from getting a degree in anything science related is his English skills. He probably knows more about astronomy ,physics etc... than about 80% of people he meets.

It's quite appalling that someone could get to their early 20's and not be able to tell the time.

But I don't believe it anyway, I'm sure it's all an act with him and he's actually quite bright behind the "dumb" act.

Report
NewBlueCoat · 19/11/2013 10:56

I can believe it.

I find it far more shocking, tbh, that he (and so many others - my dsd is one of them) have been so utterly failed by the education system to end up in this place.

he seems like a nice, decent, person.

I abhor the fact that this level of ignorance and lack of education can be feted the way it currently is, with the whole 'celebrity' tag being added to it, though.

Report
hardboiledpossum · 19/11/2013 10:57

what the hell does salty potatoe mean?!

I don't really warm to joey or any of the towie lot but it is unkind to laugh at someones intelligence.
