Cliff Richard - should he give it up?

Just been watching him on This Morning (whilst pretending to work from home and surfing Mumsnet).

AIBU to think he should call it quits? His face is full of plastic and his movements are stiff. He's certainly never been a Mick Jagger but Mick still has the energy and fire of a 30 year old, despite looking so haggard (and we all know why THAT is).

So Cliff, what are you doing? You were very pretty when you were young. But now I think it's time to put on the slippers.

Yes. I saw him performing on telly last year, and he has lost his voice. Age can be cruel, but better to admit that you aren't as good as you were than to ask your fans to forgive increasingly poor performances.

I have to admit I have never been a fan of his; his music is mawkish and he is arrogant and smug, however I don't think that people should stop simply because I don't personally like them. I think he should give up because he simply can't do it anymore.

Newt geek alert here. Misteltoe and wine was in a musical, a stage play I think before someone picked it for Cliff? Cliffexperts can elaboratye.

that's all I know.

eating my DC 13 years old loves Cliff. his music, his films. so yes the Cliffness will carry on here!

I don't see the appeal.

He makes me squirm, he's gone from national treasure to national embarrassment. Along with Paul McCartney, Bruce Forsyth, Rod Stewart and Elton John. Give the knighthood and they never retire!

To be fair SPs Cliff probably would say duck. Though I do hope he has a dark side.

I really think it's the hair that's letting him down. Let it go Cliff (grey, I mean). It's gone all Just For Men

forgetmenots Mon 18-Nov-13 18:51:59

This has made me laugh so much.

Of course he should stop. Stop now. But bless him, then we would all have to pick on someone else. Whoever mentioned a Gary Barlow thread in 30 years time is bang on! Lest we forget there might have been one 10 years ago...

Cocacola that is a lovely story smile

BabyMummy29 Mon 18-Nov-13 19:04:00

He's a pathetic, leathery-faced old man who should give up now. He never did have much of a voice.

Sorry but he is totally ridiculous.

TSSDNCOP Mon 18-Nov-13 19:13:54

TBF the last picture looks the very best. Maybe if he could give up he could look like that all the time instead of pinching about in white trousers and ill advised leatherwear.

I do like a bit of Wired For Sound personally.

fackinell Mon 18-Nov-13 20:49:59

Yes!! And he can take Terry Wogan and that tap dancing twat of a chin, Forsyth with him. In fact, take Tess too just for saying 'cooples.' confused

its just SHEER jealousy on this thread

SPsIsAgainstCliffism Mon 18-Nov-13 20:59:02

Baby do you feel better for getting tha off your CHEST

Heartbrokenmum73 Mon 18-Nov-13 21:00:28

No. For two reasons.

1 - his original rock n' roll was fucking awesome - Move It! - and it wouldn't be Christmas without Saviour's Day and Little Town on my iPod in the kitchen while we eat breakfast (although I can leave Mistletoe and Wine and that dreadful Auld Lang Syne/Lord's Prayer mash-up).

2 - his calendar is a highlight for me - it never fails to make me laugh rather loudly in Clinton's.

Long may he reign (and I rather suspect he'll outlive us all, as I'm of the belief that Cliff actually died some years back (aged about 300) and was replaced by a convincing robot).

This is funny

According to one of his fans, he is a leg end

PresidentServalan Mon 18-Nov-13 21:29:50

Cliff is a knob. The likes of Roger Daltrey, Pink Floyd, Queen are all getting on a bit but they are still awesome and incredibly cool still. I was born in the 70s and Cliff wasn't even cool when I was a kid. The likes of Saviours Day and Mistletoe and Wine make me [boak]

PresidentServalan Mon 18-Nov-13 21:30:53

fackinell Well said - now YOU are cool! grin

hyenafunk Mon 18-Nov-13 21:31:10

Noooo he can NEVER quit. I love Cliff. I even made cupcakes with his face on for Halloween grin. Even when he's a corpse I want him to continue.

Chippednailvarnish Mon 18-Nov-13 21:38:54

Bono "I pay fuck all tax" Dontknowhislastname
Paul "I was a Beatle don't you know" McCartney
Rod "tiger print" Stewart

I wish they would all retire and save me the rage.

BTW - I'm still chortling at seeing the "music" video of Cliff roller skating.

Patchouli Mon 18-Nov-13 21:41:00

Cliff Richard for example.....

I wish people wouldn't encourage him.
Justin's Cliff Tumble skit has him to a tee. How vain must he be to have cast himself as Heathcliff?

SPsIsAgainstCliffism Mon 18-Nov-13 21:43:34

I don't think MN is for me any more. The opinions on our Cliff are horrendous.

I can't be apart of it anyone
