I used to hate taking pictures as i hated lugging a camera around. I have never taken more pictures than i have since i got an iPhone. I know they aren't great but i have the phone and then the pictures all to hand.

DH on the other hand loves his big bulky camera and is happy to lug it about and he takes great pictures.

A solution for you would be to get a camera for yourself for Christmas? Your DH can continue taking snaps with his phone.

I have a Digital SLR camera, it takes beautiful photos. I worry about it getting damaged, lost or stolen. So I use my phone for all photos outside the house and the camera for Christmas and Birthdays.
I have a Samsung galaxy S3 and it takes clear clear photos not as good as the camera but certainly as good as my old compact camera.

A good camera phone is better than a shit camera (Mum, I'm looking at your rubbish camera!). If your pictures don't come out well, it might be you have a shit camera phone and need a camera to get nice pictures.

Or you might be rubbish at taking pictures and a camera won't help.

Sorry, probably not helpful!

The best camera I ever had was on my sony ericson phone.

YABU.

We have a decent enough wee digital but I don't always have it to hand so the phone is useful. I usually get the real camera out for birthdays etc....

My blackberry camera actually takes really good pictures!

Some aren't as good though DH's old HTC was a good phone but the camera was rubbish.

It depends how fussy you are on the quality I suppose!

I take tonnes of photos on my ipod and in the right light they print out just as good as ones from my camera. But a proper camera is useful and if you want one just buy one, you can get half decent ones for not much money.

Well, get a camera then. I mostly use my iTouch because I have it with me all the time - it's light, easy to use and takes fairly decent photos for what it is. I would use a camera if someone bought me one, but I wouldn't go out and buy one specifically.

And I think a phone is perfectly fine as your only camera.

Isn't it interesting how everyone is different?

I agree. My phone has an 8 MP camera on it, but it doesn't have the fantastic zoom facility, plus loads of other features my camera does. The quality of images I get from my camera far exceeds those from my phone so it's a no brainer.

I always take my camera on holiday and as we visit places of scenic beauty a camera phone just wouldn't cut it.

My advice would be to get a camera with the best zoom you can afford. It makes a huge difference.

I also have photo editing software so that I can make the most of the pictures I have taken.

I have a Samsung Galaxy and the photo quality is the same, if not better, than the large camera that dh lugs around.

The best photo from our hols that is being framed was taken by my phone.

My photos on my iphone are nowhere near as good as the ones from my camera. It's handy to have the phone camera though because I don't carry my proper camera around with me.

I make sure I have it when I know I'm going to need it, though.

The s4 takes good pictures, much better than my iPhone.

We have 3 cameras, not including the DCs (and DS1 has a monster) and still never take any photos. Once in a blue moon I take a picture on my phone - haven't worked out how to get them OFF my phone yet Grin. It just depends on whether you think you would use a camera, you could always upgrade your phone to get a better camera on it if it was more practical.

Are your sure your settings arent wrong? I took 100s of photos on my galaxy and its very rare for them to be blurry.

My 12.1 MP camera has a 14x zoom lens, face detection and image stabiliser, as well as lots of other features some of which I use and some I don't.

I like taking good quality photos and a phone camera is OK, but not as good as a decent quality camera IMO.

YANBU.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 too and agree that half the time the pictures come out blurry and dark. When I go anywhere where I want to take photographs I take my Samsung compact digital camera too. I seem to be the only one of my friends who does this, but when we look at each others' pictures, mine usually come out the clearest, so I must be doing something right.

My Motorola phone camera is fantastic, takes the most amazing photos ever and I love the editing apps too.

Sounds like you need a new camera.

My iPhone takes fabulous pictures. Not so much in the dark though - it is best in bright conditions. I have a Panasonic Lumix for taking proper photographs but the iPhone is my with-me-all-the-time camera and it does a superb job.

I have a Nikon DSLR to hand in the house and for holidays/projects. I carry a Pansonic Lumix in my handbag at all times. And I use my iPhone for social media and quick pics.

Yanbu.

If you want a digital camera, you can get a half decent one for around £100 nowdays.
DH has a nice DSLR but it's a pain to lug about with two DS's so we usually use a Panasonic Lumix (got an older model and one of the newer budget ones, happy with both).

Report
TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 13/11/2013 08:38

I spent a couple of hundred quid on a lumix (this is a few years back) less than a year later I got an iPhone which on paper and reality took much better photos

For me, my phone is adequate and I always have it with me. Before I had a mobile (feels like forever ago) I had a camera but never had it with me and we have very few photos of that time.
