AIBU to be a bit sad about it? BHS usually excel in it, I noticed today Asda had an aisle of it.

It's all so, well, crap. sad

I wouldn't buy any of it for anyone-it looks like you went down the random Christmas tat aisle and bought the first thing you saw. Who buys it? confused

Sorry about mentioning the C word-but it's out there. sad

Exhibit A

Moonstorm Mon 04-Nov-13 18:45:49

Ban all this tat and you go towards solving the recycling/ landfill problem...

And this goes for all tat, not just Christmas. I always argue that the recycling problem could be 'solved' by the manufacturers. By they time it gets to the consumer it is too late.

Oh and yes I agree that who would buy it anyway?

Sparklingbrook Mon 04-Nov-13 18:49:23

Exhibit B hmm

Exactly Moon, it's all just clutter that will end up in the bin. I suppose charity shops benefit <tries to see positive>.

Heartbrokenmum73 Mon 04-Nov-13 18:51:42

God, yes, BHS are the worst offenders, every single year. It makes me laugh cos they market themselves as fairly naice but their Christmas stuff would make Del Boy think twice!

Sparklingbrook Mon 04-Nov-13 18:52:48

Yes Heart it really is awful in BHS not really an aisle more of a whole Department of Crapola.

Bogeyface Mon 04-Nov-13 18:53:54

But if you banned the tat how could you possibly do passive aggressive gift giving to people you dont like?

The bitchy SIL would be the perfect recipient for the shoe grin

LaurieFairyCake Mon 04-Nov-13 18:54:23

I hate the bhs stuff - also makes me sad, it's so vulgar and will end up being thrown away or land filled

The worst excesses of our culture make me feel sad or angry

I got a massive rage on internally yesterday at a wooden box in a catalogue that holds 6 watches (not included obviously) - £1950

Bogeyface Mon 04-Nov-13 18:54:53

stoopid tablet....

I was going add that giving someone some of that crap proves that you havent given their gift any thought at all, which is a great message to send to certain people!

Sparklingbrook Mon 04-Nov-13 18:56:33

Ooh yes good point Bogey-some people deserve stuff from the tat aisle.

storminabuttercup Mon 04-Nov-13 19:02:37

I always end up with one of those mini bottles of wine with a few chocolates and a mini crappy bottle of wine. They cost about 7 quid, you. Can get a decent bottle of wine for that.

I like wine

I don't think I deserve tat

even if I am an ungrateful bitch

storminabuttercup Mon 04-Nov-13 19:03:10

I missed the glass I was concentrating on the crappy wine

Tiredmumno1 Mon 04-Nov-13 19:08:06

My first thought at exhibit A was, what the fuck would I do with one shoe grin.

Exhibit B well that's usually the kind of tat that gets left battered up til the end that no bugger wants grin.

Sparklingbrook Mon 04-Nov-13 19:10:25

This is particularly vile. How much is a proper bottle of Baileys? confused

You mean you wouldn't keep your phone in it Tired? confused

Sparklingbrook Mon 04-Nov-13 19:10:48

I am sure the racing drunks used to be racing grannies too.

Heartbrokenmum73 Mon 04-Nov-13 19:11:20

They always strike me as the kind of shite that people buy for secret Santa when they get someone they don't know very well.

My dsis has been given some of this tat at work before now. She even passed one set on to me. Teeny tiny bottle of Baileys (probably a mouthful in it), three chocolates and a mahoosive mug! She doesn't like Bailey's so we still don't know why she was given it.

Better than when her ex MIL gave her some chocolate body paint though shock

Heartbrokenmum73 Mon 04-Nov-13 19:11:59

Yes!!! It was one of those bottles! Just one though...

Tiredmumno1 Mon 04-Nov-13 19:13:10

Absolutely not sparkling, the first place that would head is the bin if I received it as a present (or charity shop).

No offence to anyone that actually likes it grin.

Justforlaughs Mon 04-Nov-13 19:14:09

But then my mother would have to buy something useful/ wanted for Christmas! and why would she want to do that when she can buy a shed load of crap tat!

Sparklingbrook Mon 04-Nov-13 19:15:06

Happy Christmas!!! confused

Tiredmumno1 Mon 04-Nov-13 19:15:23

Oh and I think I would just cry if I got given those teeny tiny bottles of baileys. I thought it cost about the same amount for a normal bottle?

blibblibs Mon 04-Nov-13 19:15:39

You can get a full bottle of Bailey's in the co-op for £12 just now.

I know which I'd prefer grin

Sparklingbrook Mon 04-Nov-13 19:16:02

Nobody in their right mind would like the phone shoe Tired. grin

phantomnamechanger Mon 04-Nov-13 19:18:01

I've seen racing nuns too.

I decided early on that my kids stockings were going to have useful stuff in not piles of tatt - it took me a couple of years to work out that we would soon end up with a houseful of rubbish. My one regret about doing nice birthday parties for them is the piles of gifts we had to home!

they get flannels, toothbrush, a few sweets, shower gel, socks, gloves, proper pens for school and maybe a card game or qiuz/puzzle book.
