.. and frequently cleverer, funnier and generally more talented.

I am struggling to think of a counter-example from my personal experience.

Do you mean in the eyes of the older sibling?

I guess I can imagine older siblings feel these sort of jealousies sometimes.

Blatantly not true though.

Everyone has a different perception of what's 'attractive'.

Eggs and sperm aren't released in order of least to most attractive, nor is 'attractiveness' a gene.

Your theory is completely implausible. Are you an older sibling and have a bit of sibling rivalry going on perhaps?

The Miliband brothers. Ed (younger) is less good looking than David, arguably less clever and less talented.

I think what younger siblings tend to have is more confidence. Although - there was some report a while back pointing out that most world leaders/industry hotshots are oldest siblings or only children.

Dunno.

Obviously my brood are perfectly equally blessed in looks and intellect although the baby is getting a precocious head start on learning toilet humour from her brothers .

But facebooking people's kids - and thinking of sibling pairs in my friendship groups - I keep noticing that the younger child is somehow more... symmetric and fine-featured. Maybe the older siblings eat all the pies - and their inexperienced parents dropped them when they were babies .

Chris Hemsworth is way better looking than Liam.

My mother is much, much more attractive than her two younger sisters.

DH is a million times sexier than his older brother.

However in the interests of fairness I will happily admit that my younger sister is far more attractive than I am.

Hassled Shock

The Miliband brothers totally prove my point!

The older one is wonky looking - and intellectually brittle. Ed for me any day of the week!

In the eyes of the parents, probably, my younger sister can do no wrong.

Of course the fact that I'm the one with the degree and a stable job, whereas she's the one who just failed her most recent year of uni is irrelevant.

I'm not jealous of the way my parents treat her as better than me at all.

I'm 9 years older than my sister. When I had DD1, she showed a work colleague a photo of me and the baby in the hospital. Her work colleague immediately said 'you look so alike', to which DSis said 'she's nearly 10 years older than me and has just been through a long labour, that is not a complement!' (I thought it was Smile). Does that provide enough of a counter point to your experience? Maybe you just assume the better looking siblings are the youngest?

Seriously though I think the stats suggest older siblings generally do better academically, not sure if that fits your definition of talented though? Looks I think are random and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
