I am totally willing to be told i was being unreasonable.

DP was working today so nipped into town with DS. DS fell asleep in his buggy so i nipped legged it shit hot into a coffee shop.

I sat at one of the tiny, just big enough for two tables with a scone and a posh coffee and had been there maybe 10 minutes (so still had half left) when a couple approached with a tray and asked if i'd be long. I said 'yes, sorry, a little while' and went back to the trashy mag i was reading thinking that they'd move on.

Nope - she asked how long! I repeated i'd be a little while and he said 'well we'll wait here'. Then they stood right over me for a good 5 minutes watching me stuff my face until a table came free over the other side (which i pointed out - they were too busy hovering next to me)

Cafe was busy. No other tables but they didn't ask anyone else, just hovered. My table was really tiny so i didn't offer to share. Not a big deal in the scheme of it but totally spoilt my treat. Wibu not to have hurried?

Nope. I'd have eaten the scone crumb by crumb.

YANBU. You could have sat there until the place closed if you'd wanted.

Euphemia Sat 02-Nov-13 22:46:44

If she had asked me how long, I'd have fixed her with my teacher stare and replied "As long as it takes." hmm

PomBearWithAnOFRS Sat 02-Nov-13 22:47:05

I'd have ordered something else just to piss them off, and smirked at them while I was doing it grin

EndoplasmicReticulum Sat 02-Nov-13 22:47:20

I'd have gone extra slowly too.

How rude! And slightly odd. I think I'd have superglued my arse to the chair at that point.

RevelsRoulette Sat 02-Nov-13 22:50:31

You were unreasonable to not put your scone and drink down and tell them that you weren't going to eat in front of an audience. And then fold your arms and stare at them.

Oh how I wish I was brave! I NEVER get chance to enjoy posh coffee so I was loving it. The barista had even drawn a caramel flower on my macchiato too!

superram Sat 02-Nov-13 22:54:01

This is why you shouldn't order until you have bagged a table-tis the rules!

RevelsRoulette Sat 02-Nov-13 22:58:06

oh god, please no. Superram - you have no idea what you've just done.

Last time we had the 'to bagsie a table or not' debate - people were injured. grin seriously - buns flying all over the place. People are missing suspected buried under a pile of cupcakes and chelsea buns.

howmuchwouldyoutake Sat 02-Nov-13 23:08:15

I bagsied the table by pushing DS' buggy up next to it and putting my coat on the chair blush

I would have made that scone and coffee last an outrageous amount of time after that! Cut the scone into as many pieces as possible and then eaten it with a fork possibly.

How rude! That is not normal behaviour.

BatPenguin Sun 03-Nov-13 00:23:13

Yanbu to not have hurried, they were rude.

How ever, yabu for making me want a scone at this time of night. Details please, cream, jam?...

ohshitimlate Sun 03-Nov-13 00:58:05

shock I'm surprised metal thieves haven't had it away with their necks.

You were only not unreasonable in not stopping and dead eyeing them back or emitting a ""was there anything else you needed? " PA statement.

Merel Sun 03-Nov-13 01:11:28

I think the couple were extremely rude, YWNBU

holidaysarenice Sun 03-Nov-13 01:23:26

You have just started the 'bagsying tables' and 'scone cream jam v scone jam cream' wars in one thread.

I salute you.

I am also!!!

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 03-Nov-13 01:36:36

Bagsying tables is fine.

It's scone,cream,jam.

AdoraBell Sun 03-Nov-13 01:39:25

I would have ordered another coffee.

WandaDoff Sun 03-Nov-13 01:41:46

I would have made a point of taking my time after that.

Caitlin17 Sun 03-Nov-13 02:24:06

YANBU. This is the opposite of they bagsying tables. You were sitting there eating. I'd have gone for a cake and a refill .

squoosh Sun 03-Nov-13 02:30:48

Rude bastards.

I would have stayed there till the bloom had left my cheeks, my hair was long and grey and my DS was 37.

APartridgeAmongThePigeons Sun 03-Nov-13 02:32:21

yanbu! and you should have said "well every second I am talking to you not enjoying my drink and my scone I am not eating it..and you'll have to wait longer."

Or very simply... "you'll have a long bloody wait^

APartridgeAmongThePigeons Sun 03-Nov-13 02:34:22

Actually you should have waited until ds woke up and then when they eventually got a seat right next to you let them enjoy their meal with him screaming next to them.
