Arranged to have a parcel collected by Hermes today. Thought I'd give them a go as Royal Mail are so expensive. I was sent an email saying it would be picked up between 08.00 and 20.00. Arranged a safe place to store the parcel if I went out. 20.00 came and went, no sign of courier. Sent them an email to ask what was going on. Just got a reply, apparently the courier attempted to pick the package up at 05.49 this morning. What kind of company sends a courier before 6am without prior notice? ???

This is why I stick with RM! Hermes tend to chuck parcels over my side gate if I'm not in.

No way would I use them for ebay sales, but would be interested to hear other experiences and recommendations.

I thought you were talking about the scarf people!

That is annoying though. Suppose they won't be able to pick it up till Monday now?

Who knows when they'll try again, they didn't share that information!

Thanks for the tip Humphrys, I will try DPD next time.

They leave my deliveries in the recycling bin - WHILE IT IS OUTSIDE THE GATE WAITING TO BE EMPTIED.

Hermes threw my parcel over my back garden wall just missing the garden waste bin and a bucket of water and on their tracking page online they'd written the parcel had been left in an "out house"...Confused. They're utter shit.

Hermes are yodel btw.

I second dpd.. mostly because my husband works for them Grin

Poor bloody driver though being sent out for collection at that time.

Hermes and Yodel are two different companies, not in any way affiliated AFAIK.

I love these delivery parcel threads. Grin

I don't use online sellers who use Hermes or Yodel - they're cheap because they simply don't allow enough time for drivers to deliver properly.

That said, there are places like our corner shop who will be a local collection point. If you try them again but please don't then that might be a more convenient option.

I also know that our local collect+ point uses Yodel for deliveries.

It's not that easy to avoid Yodel and Hermes imo.

Asda home direct uses Hermes for deliveries too.

True about being tricky to avoid - I usually end up paying extra for Royal Mail. But at least it gets here.

I think it completely depend on who your local delivery driver is. Our MyHermes one is ace and even borrowed his wife's car once when he needed to pick up loads of big parcels from us.

Your courier did NOT attempt to collect at 5.49 yesterday morning.

We are not allowed to attempt anything before 7, and tbh I'd be extremely surprised if any courier had even received their work by that time. Mine will arrive between 10-11 today (awkward location), most depots are sending couriers on their way between 8-10. The courier has signed off your job before even receiving parcels for that day, and that should be obvious on the system (to Hermes) that he/she won't have scanned anything in, so can't possibly be on the road to 'fail' an attempt

We all work Saturdays, so should be 'reattempted' today.

The courier is an idiot, we are supposed to prioritise these collections above all else, so even if they were busy they should have just hung onto some non-timelimited parcels, not sack off a job that was due for that day. Are you in a difficult location? Not that that's an excuse!

I've used collect+ loads and have had no problems with them - not sure what company picks up from my corner shop. It is incredibly convenient and all parcels are fully tracked.

I totally agree with always. We only have 2 decent couriers round here and its the DPD and Hermes ones. The others do all the dodgy things people complain about.

My Hermes guy is brilliant. We are on first name terms. I also have his mobile number. He usually knows when I will be available and comes then. I couldn't fault them tbh.

All depends on the local person. One of ours must have been a heavy smoker as everything he delivered stank of smoke so badly they used to have defumigate in the garden!

My hermes collection shop - half the staff don't know how to process the parcels. Anyway I now used collect+ but only when significantly cheaper than than royal mail.
