Fuck the fucking fuck off with his fucking CB Radio? Angry

I was trying to watch a film when, about five minutes in all I could hear from my speakers was "Charlie tango 351, this is charlie tango 351, is anyone out there? Over" every two fucking minutes, no-one ever answers the poor bastard, so why he bothers is beyond me.

I have been forced to decamp to the living room where DH has kindly switched off Sky Sports to let me watch my film and started trying to watch it with me Angry. I'm not sure what's worse, listening to "Charlie tango 351" talk to himself over my film all night or putting up with DH's "Who's that? Wasn't she dead? Oh, was that the other one? Well who's that one then? Is she gonna die?"

I can't complain. I am not a natural complainer. I'm more of live and let live type, normally Charlie Tango does not bother me, but tonight I wanna make the most of the teachers strike with a bottle of cheap wine and a late night watching crappy 80's horror films. DH is far better at whinging than me, it's his hobby, therefore he should be the nasty twat who goes and tells him to switch the fecking thing off, no? Plus it's cold and it's raining and I don't want to get wet and I feel a bit sorry for the bloke coz no-one ever answers him, yet he's on the bloody thing all day and night long, poor bastard, so I'd probably end up inviting him round for a drink with us

if you don't tell him then he won't know its disturbing you. I am not sure why your DH is more qualified for this task than you if you are the one bothered by it? It could be argued that you need the practise?

" I am not a natural complainer."

Strangely that's not the way you come across

i think the answer is obvious. get a CB Radio of your own. Wink

If you tell him, he can switch to a frequency where people CAN reply. No one can talk to him if he is simply the disembodied voice in the surround system.

I'd send DH to tell Charlie Tango 351 to Foxtrot Oscar.

Poor Charlie Tango 351. Can you tell him to join Mumsnet?

I'm not sure Charlie Tango has the t'internet, you wouldn't bother with a CB radio if you had access to chat boards, surely?

DH now thinks it would be a good idea to start watching cowboy films instead of 80's horror. If I hear how good The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is one more time I might be forced to go and live with Charlie Tango 351 Hmm

I can't complain in RL. I am too nice Grin That's why I whinge so much on here Grin

Try gathering and binding all the wires at the back of your TV etc with cable ties. They can act as antennae.

Maybe you should watch Smoky and the Bandit then the CB will just blend in.

It's my PC speakers, oddly the surround sound is not effected. I do have several million bits of shite attached to my PC, most of which I've forgetten the purpose of or they've long been broken/replaced. If I remove all of these that will help?

Charlie Tango is mildly amusing when we have company. He often sounds all distorted and distant. I've almost convinced dd2's friend that the PC is haunted Grin She's still not sure, she thinks it might be one of the dogs accidentally pressing a button somewhere Confused

I'm really bad at complaining about anything. I hate it. People get all upset and then I feel obliged to do something to make them feel better and it's wet. DH should be the one who gets wet.

But how do you know that Charlie Tango 351 is one of your neighbours?

Well, you're clearly suffering from interference. This is usually because your equipment is insufficiently shielded from it.

Now, I'm not a CBer, I'm a Radio Amateur. Usually if we are operating within the bounds of our licence, any interference is not the fault of the the transmitter but the fault of the equipment being interfered with in not being up to the job of shielding itself. Modern electronic equipment manufacturers take a lot of shortcuts which they oughtn't, and often in shielding because only a proportion of locations will have an issue. It is /possible/ he's operating outside the bounds of his licence, but not that likely.
Unfortunately, a fair few interfered with people blame the transmitter and not their own equipment and get quite irate. It is generally NOT HIS FAULT, if he is operating in the bounds of his licence he is acting perfectly reasonably. Also, how is he to know he's affecting your speakers, you haven't told him, have you?

Now, usually a local Amateur Radio club can help you to figure out which filters can solve your interference problem by helping you to install a variety of filters and shielding from their stocks; once you have figured out what works, it's up to /you/ to buy the right equipment. This usually also requires the cooperation of the person transmitting to transmit while you are trying the filters. This person is however a CBer, not a radio amateur, and they have less stringent requirements for their skills at understanding electronic equipment

Your best first step is to talk to the person transmitting in a calm and rational manner and say you're suffering from some interference and would appreciate some help in fixing the problem. He may get defensive, concerned you are going to get irate or insist he pays for the deficiencies in your equipment. As a CBer, he may not be able to help. However, your local radio amateur club may be appealed to for assistance too.

BUT
Yes, it would be VERY unreasonable to go and ask him to F the F Off because it's most likely your equipment at fault, not him.

Halloween Grin so you're a radio amateur then MadHatter? I'm guessing radio amateurs look down on lowly cbers from your tone and your repeated differentiation of the two then? I get the feeling that it really irritates you when we uninformed lay people lump you all together, in essence isn't it the same thing?

Madder is right, all radio kit has to meet certain specs otherwise they'd be knocking all sorts of important kit out - if it's only your PC speakers it may be that the wires are acting as an aerial - may sound silly, but fiddle with the wires, shorten them if long or if they're hanging in a loop, make them flat etc...

I know it's not as fun an answer as "go up & have a row with the CB nutter" but it's more likely to work!!
