To wonder if all of the Creatures saved by the Octonauts are real?

Because some of them are just weird and look distinctly fictional.

Obviously the Octonauts themselves aren't really real, and the Octopod itself breaks several laws of physics - don't start me on the Gups - but what about the creatures? Are they havin a larf?

Giant siphonophore? Fairylights in the midnight zone, talking in dodgy Italian accents ...

All real. The deepest parts of the oceans really are like another universe - some things that live there are so inctredibly weird it's hard to believe they're real.

They are. Google them. That's what's so great about the Octonauts.

All the technology is totally fake of course :)

Obviously can't say how accurate the accents are...

The only animals that are made up are the vegimals.

Thanks to the Octonauts DS knows tonnes about undersea creatures. Unfortunately he also thinks they can talk Grin

We LOVE this programme. Plus there's so many episodes.

I wonder how they cast the voice actors: 'now we need a Scottish accent for these Sea Pigs, because their back story is...'

Or do they just have the same guys in and say 'do your best'?

I have googled many of them. Grin I was terribly disappointed that they weren' t quite as cute in real life!

Did you see the one when the Vegimals got Vegimapox? Smile It had the mimic octopus in it. Poorly vegimals were very cute.

We love Octonauts too. DD1 (4.5) and I now google the animals and learn more about them. It's DD2's favorite program so I need DD1 to tolerate and be interested in it.

It's generally the same actors putting on different voices. Leon the elephant seal and Mitch the humpback whale are the same voice and accent. 'The name's Mitch' says Leon... You can hear 'Dashi' in a lot of the female animal characters.

Did you see the publicity when the Blobfish won a competition to find the world's ugliest creature? And the "real" Blobs in the episode were so stoic and cheery too Sad.

Octopus camouflage is worth seeing.

We were at a Sealife Centre and my DS aged 5 said "Look at the garden eels mum!" I asked how he knew what they were as the sign was high up and hard to read. He said "I have seen them on Octonauts of course!"

Who says children's television isn't educational?

It's such a shame that the vegimals aren't real. DS2 would love a pet vegimal.

My favourite is still the Scouse walruses, all going "Eh, eh, eh" when the fake walrus is revealed - it's hilarious and goes right over the kids' heads.

Octonauts is really really educational, but wears it so lightly. There really should be more programmes like it.

I love that they manage to make all these bizarre and ugly creature look cute.

DD is still pretending to be a cone snail....she pokes you then tells you to lie down and be very sad. This was all rather confusing for MIL when she came to visit...

cone snails are definitely not as cute or easy to recover from as the octonauts make out!

That octopus video is amazing, surgeon. When I'm watching Octonauts I always think 'oh they're exaggerating' but no, marine life is really that weird and incredible.
