To Find Martin Lewis Really Irritating?

I cannot decide whether I am a bit hormonal (possible) or whether he really does constantly shout and have an utterly smug expression 99% of the time?

YANBU. He is rather preachy.

He is a bit shouty.
He wants people to listen. I guess you could say he's passionate about his work.

I like him because he has helped me save a few pennies over the years.

He's funny on his fb page, but I don't watch anything he's on so don't know how he comes across on tv.

HerBigChance · 10/10/2013 11:01

I like what he does, but I wouldn't want to live with him.

YANBU.

I love the website, and had rather an impressive image of him in my head - i was hugely disappointed when I saw him on TV.

RENTING IS NOT A DIRTY WORD

That's all I hear him say Grin

He is right about many things. Prepared to forgive him for now about anything else.

I have time for him. He is spot on with what he says and therefore is worth listening to, esp re energy price increases. So so glad we've fixed for 4 years.

I lurve him! I think he is v passionate about what he does Nd really wants to help people. Why are people so sneering about people like him and Jamie Oliver who are enthusiastic about things and want to improve the lives of others? What the hell have you done to help people...?

squoosh · 10/10/2013 11:10

He speaks a lot of financial sense but I certainly wouldn't want to live with him either.

As an aside I assumed he was gay was v surprised to find out he had a wife.

Love him here too- he's saved us a fortune

Scarletohello remove the blinkers, you are seriously deluded if you think these people are following some sort of vocation to 'improve the lives of others'.

Honestly, open your silly little eyes.

YABU. He is shouty and talks very fast because his time slots are too short for all the information he has to share. He does his best to make sure he gets all the information across.
He has saved me quite a bit over the years, so I may be little bias.

That's quite a reaction, Scarlet, is he your DH?

I think it's reasonable that the OP finds him irritating; but i don't think shes's sneering at him. He is indeed to be admired for his passion and helpful site/programmes. That doesn't mean people still can't find him a bit irritating, though.

He irritates me quite a bit. Focuses on price without considering value, so does not always give the best advice in my opinion.

Report
CocacolaMum · 10/10/2013 12:02

Scarlet.. what the hell I have done to help people is none of your beeswax tbh. I haven't sneered at what he does although I have no doubt that he doesn't work for free.

Littlegreyauditor there is some really good stuff on his website but I agree it seems price focused rather than value which I don't think is always wise.

I'm so-so about him; hate the forums with an unbridled passion. MN at its worst is nothing compared to the MSE forums on a good day.

He's a bit annoying - but I've saved £1000's of pounds following his advice on Energy and Insurance.

"Focuses on price without considering value"

YES! The fuel prices thing does my nut - Asda diesel is a couple of pence/litre cheaper than Shell but I get considerably poorer MPG with Asda, to the extent that Shell is better value overall.

And do you know what I don't care if he doesn't do it for free. I've saved loads.

That's fine, it's people who act as if he's Saint Martin of the Money Savers that irritate me. It's his job, that's all.

He sold the website for nearly £100m, good for him!

Report
Dahlen · 10/10/2013 13:23

I rather like him but I've not seen him on TV so only have his website to go on, which I've found very helpful over the years. If he's the shouty sort though YANBU. Shouty people irritate me too. Don't' mind loud, as in fun, but shouty is just annoying.

On This Morning today i'm much with op, he wouldn't let the lady get a word in edgeways!!

On the otherhand he does have good tips, although he does need to quieten down a bit- he was like a hyperactive child this morning and afterall it's his job, he is paid for this and it doesn't give him the right to be damn right rude!!!
