To wonder what the point of short sleeved jumpers is?

Particularly for children. Just, why? If it's cold enough to wear a jumper, it's cold enough for your arms to be covered.

ConfusedandDazed24 Thu 03-Oct-13 00:12:57

I also thought this earlier when I was in a well known high street store New Look. I assumed I was thinking it because I appear to be turning elderly overnight so I'm glad you wonder about it too!

Monty27 Thu 03-Oct-13 00:13:27

Me too, and your ass and half your legs if its a decent jumper. confused christ I sound old

MichelleRouxJnr Thu 03-Oct-13 00:13:53

I like to wear em with a long sleeved cotton top underneath.
Nicer against the skin and no big bulky sleeves to push into a jacket.

Where do you stand on gillets? wink

KenAdams Thu 03-Oct-13 00:15:59

We might both be turning elderly BigOrange

Ooh yes Monty I am of the jumper down to my knees persuasion.

Ah, fuck it, I'm just old.

KenAdams Thu 03-Oct-13 00:17:28

Gilets? Don't even go there. Why?! Are your arms not freezing? I'm all riled up now. Bloody gilets?

I may be taking this all too seriously

Even more mysterious are short sleeved jackets and coats

KenAdams Thu 03-Oct-13 00:50:34

hmm WTF is all that about? No one actually buys them, surely?

Monty27 Thu 03-Oct-13 01:01:48

Ken a nice belt and wooly scarf can make a very big jumper look a wee bit stylish and then maybe just maybe, mind a gilet? grin

Until it's really cold and they you buy a bigger sized coat so you can fit your big fat jumper under it. Oh I hate being cold grin

festered Thu 03-Oct-13 02:11:33

I have often wondered this myself!

cumfy Thu 03-Oct-13 03:19:45

It's all 'armless fun.wink

BetsyBidwell Thu 03-Oct-13 03:24:19

Style. Breaks up all the fabric. Plus under suits

jammiedonut Thu 03-Oct-13 04:02:17

I guess it's just an extra layer, better than nothing. I'm a bit weird in that as long as my torso is nice and warm I'm happy, so you'll often see me in my gilet and flip flops. Not exactly the epitome of style but meh.

PhallicGiraffe Thu 03-Oct-13 06:37:05

Because your body needs the warmth a lot more than your arms. You can stay warm whilst having your arms free of bulky material, so you can do a lot more. Pretty simple to figure out really.

chocoshopoholic Thu 03-Oct-13 06:54:01

I wear short sleeved jumpers under suits for work.

Crowler Thu 03-Oct-13 06:59:14

I had a short-sleeved cable-knit sweater years ago, I wore it to work with a short-sleeved oxford shirt underneath it. The little white cuffs peeked out from underneath the sleeves, very cute, or at least I thought it was.

It was eaten by moths, I don't have it anymore.

Anyway, it was just a different style. I LOVE three-quarter length sleeves. so cute.

"You can stay warm whilst having your arms free of bulky material, so you can do a lot more"

Doesn't work for me. If my arms and wrists are cold the rest of me is.

In the same way I find three quarter length sleeves on jumpers and coats just as useless and impractical.

babysbreath Thu 03-Oct-13 07:11:18

Bunbaker I agree with you, as I find three quarter sleeves useless. My whole arm has to be covered when it is chilly, otherwise I am cold.

I would say 90% of M&S clothes have three quarter sleeves, which puts me off buying their clothes.

WhispersOfWickedness Thu 03-Oct-13 07:13:24

YANBU, also add fingerless gloves to the list of pointless clothing. My fingers are the vast majority of my hand and are the main bit that gets cold confused
Having said that, DD has been given loads of sleeveless jumpers, so the poor thing is just going to have to deal with cold arms grin

Pobblewhohasnotoes Thu 03-Oct-13 07:17:11

I have a gillet and it keeps me toasty warm.

duckyfuzz Thu 03-Oct-13 07:19:50

Love short sleeve knits under suits or as alternative to T shirt. I always end up pushing sleeves up on ls jumpers

roughtyping Thu 03-Oct-13 07:21:50

I wear one over a long sleeved top. I work indoors, in a school. Errr stops me getting too hot?! (Now not sure why I wear it but I love it!)

starsandunicorns Thu 03-Oct-13 07:23:58

I have a gillet to keep my back warm but if im cold enough to want a jumper I want to wear one with full length arms

Whatsthatnoise Thu 03-Oct-13 07:24:56

I prefer 3/4 length sleeves, long sleeves just get in the way. I also have orang-utan arms so long sleeves a rarely the correct length grin
