To think this is the most offensive band name

In the pub I bumped into some people I knew from school days and haven't seen in 15+ years one was telling me he'd set up his own record label, which I though was great, then he took off his hoodie and reviled the latest band merchandise. The band was called "cot death" WTAF!! I must have looked shocked/appalled and I said I didn't think it was an appropriate name, after a quick exchange of cross words in which he said he thought I "used to be cool" we parted company and avoided each other for the rest if the night. Is this offensive?

God how old is he?

As a youngster it may seem cool and subversive - as an adult - mixing with other adults who may well have been devastated by a cot-death, he's being a wanker to think it's still ok.

Kids get away with it 'cos they're kids.

No. That's disgusting.

He wasn't thick. I know this is some kind of attention seeking thing, but we should have all grown out of that now. He ha

I opened this thread thinking that there's no way it could beat 'Anal Cunt' but fair play, you've found worse.

He's 30! And had a really lovely set of parents, I think his dad died, a few years ago but that's not an excuse.

I initially thought it would be something like The Retards, but this takes the Busicuit Angry

He is a wanker. Hopefully his record label will be short lived if he doesn't wise up and stop trying so hard to be offensive/controversial.

Well his band is not going to go far with that name, so he might think they are edgy and controversial but they're just a bit stupid and sad really.

It's edgy and contraversial if you were 13

Reminds me of the not so nicely named "Cradle of Filth". It's an old and boring shock tactic....

Reminds me of the band of a guy I went to uni with his band was PSV which stood for putrid stinking vaginas. I thought that was awful but yours tops it.

I get the whole shock factor as (misplaced/poorly judged) means of marketing but surely there's no way it could work and it just made me want to shake some sense into him. What's wrong with some people.

I clicked on this thread thinking it would be "Dying Fetus." I like that band but would never wear one of their shirts because I'd hate to upset someone who'd suffered a miscarriage.

What a dick. Reminds me of a terrible, terrible online date I went on once where the bloke told a truly awful joke involving sex with a baby really loudly in a quiet pub. People looked over shocked; I was absolutely mortified.
Some folk are just incredibly dense.

Horrible, disgusting name. My sister died from cot death and I don't find this name amusing at all, be the band members 13 or 73.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 22/09/2013 19:58

The name wouldn't hurt the band's chances of success if the genre ws death metal or some other genre where such names are common.

StuntGirl · 22/09/2013 20:04

Well I doubt they're a cheery pop band, so the name likely suits the genre. Some extreme metal bands have horrible names, it's part of the genre.

Jeez Katy is that a band name too? I just don't understand why, whatever the genre. Stuff, no second date then? Ha

Mission accomplished stunt?!? Maybe he's right and I did used to be cool. Now I feel how my mum must have when in was trying to explain why I loved nirvana!

It's the one thing in certain genres to try and come up with the most shocking and/or offensive name possible.

Even as a teenager, heavily into various forms of black metal, I remember being rather uncomfortable with a band called Zyklon-B.

You don't have to be cool at 30. Grin
