AIBU?

Aibu to think that In The Night Garden is a work of genius?

That's it really.

Result of a night smoking pot and eating special mushrooms perhaps, but some of the best artwork was done under the influence of opium/laudanum back in the day.

In generations to come they will look back on ITNG and hail it as an all time classic of the children's TV genre.

Not on a par with the glory days of Pat's Fun House and Mallet's Wackaday work of course. But nonetheless a work of genius.

Its the work of someone on a acid trip

I lurve it. Its so random. My favourite part is where Iggle Piggle gets so drunk he just falls over clutching that bloody blanket aaaah.

You're right perhaps. Could be acid.

I'm always a bit disappointed when it's a Pontipine-heavy episode, though...

Or they are just showing what they did while on acid

Vatican, me too!

DTS are addicted to it, but DTS1 cries when the pinky ponk turns upside down!

You lean it's not the same episode every day? We've been watching it for months and I never noticed.

My DS gets genuinely distressed when Iggle Piggle sails off in his boat at the end. He doesn't like that he's all on his own in the dark with no mummy or daddy Sad

YANBU - it is genius. I really miss it now that DS is 8. It was so relaxing. 20 mins of doing nothing and then a story about, well, doing nothing. So suitable for that age group unlike most of the rest of what is on.

I had to stop my ds watching it because it gave me nightmares. Proper creepy fucked-up nightmares too. He got over it with a the help of YouTube episodes of 'Bertha'

It's like baby Valium. For that alone it's brilliant.

Well since I didn't realise that the episodes change it could well be valium for mums too.

I LOVE THAT PROGRAMME SO MUCH! (Though I'm not convinced about the drugs connection, they always say that about children's programmes.)

Regardless, I think its beautiful and wonderful.

When he's in his little boat at the beginning and end, with that haunting song, its like pure poetry. Heaven.

(I was always more keen on it than my son mind).

I get upset when I think too deeply about it, Iggle Piggle sailing about all day alone in his little boat, the only time he sees his friends is when he falls to sleep and dreams of the Night Garden.

I recently went to Night Garden Live with the dc, it was amazing, I got all choked up when the music started.

Iggle Piggle is asleep and dreaming?

Just realised I have entirely missed the point of the programme. I watched it for years too. I used to cry a bit at the start.

And yes I do think it is a work of genius. Perfect.

YANBU I love how my DS (and DD in her day) love this show. He instantly relaxes when he hears the music and Derek Jacobi's voice, even when he's been mid tantrum. Awwww instant, blissful, peace and quiet Smile

My children love it but the random scale of everything stresses me out.

I prefer Waybaloo it's a bit more dreamy and not as nightmarish - like those scary birds in Night Garden!

Work of the devil more like, it used to drive me insane. I am so happy that dd has reached the age of horrible histories and I never have to watch another night garden episode again!

I love ITNG. It was dd1s favourite program and I now watch it with dd2 and sing all the songs while she looks on bemused and flaffs at her socks. She is 7mo
