to think that if you go through a thread on here just reading the names it sounds like the commentary on the horse racing?

Try it. Its almost impossible to do it with out hearing the horse racing commentator's voice in your head.

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious Tue 10-Sep-13 13:53:45

I dont think my name fits in. Have a go and let me know grin

MrsWedgeAntilles Tue 10-Sep-13 13:56:23

Although imagine you're winning the horse race and he's doing that all excited bit, it sounds quite the thing smile

VenusRising Tue 10-Sep-13 14:00:01

Sp, you fell at the first for me (dyslexia alert)!
MrsWedge, you're storming ahead

BuskersCat Tue 10-Sep-13 14:01:57

VenusRising would make an excellent race horse name

SilverStreak7 Tue 10-Sep-13 14:02:33

LOL .. Guess mine could be apt for that . .. or motorbike racing smile

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious Tue 10-Sep-13 14:03:18

I will imagine mine been send with a head shake and a finger click while I'm on the cat walk.

DidoTheDodo Tue 10-Sep-13 14:19:20

I'd fall over at the first fence. Guaranteed.

TheBigJessie Tue 10-Sep-13 14:24:27

Actually, you're right.

SP, your name works too. You come from a long-established stable that had used up all the snappy names and you have a rich pedigree of famous mares and stallions, so they decided to put some of your forebears' names together for you.

AnneUulmelmahay Tue 10-Sep-13 14:55:15

Great idea, v funny

LackingEnergy Tue 10-Sep-13 15:44:36

Think I'd do quite well wink

FrankelInFoal Tue 10-Sep-13 16:04:11

I can bore you all senseless with the rules about naming racehorses if you like grin

QuizteamBleakley Tue 10-Sep-13 16:07:08

Random aside: didn't some fuckwit terribly funny footballer try to name a horse (his horse I believe, not a passing mare) Hoof Hearted?

MrsTerryPratchett Tue 10-Sep-13 16:08:03

Frankel tell us Who's names pass... thanks

MrsWedgeAntilles Tue 10-Sep-13 16:09:38

SP, when you do this thread it sounds like you're winning
LackingEngery, that made me laugh smile

FrankelInFoal Tue 10-Sep-13 16:10:35

That's an urban legend. The only horse to be named Hoof Hearted ran in South Africa about 10 years ago.

People may have tried to use the name but Weatherbys (the registration body for racehorses in Britain and Ireland) are very hot on weeding out rude/offensive names these days.

MrsWedgeAntilles Tue 10-Sep-13 16:11:51

For two minutes there I was thinking Hoof Hearted sounded like a lovely name for a horse smile

BubbleBathFoam Tue 10-Sep-13 16:15:10

Wicked thread. I tried the voice in my head haha.

MrsWedgeAntilles Tue 10-Sep-13 16:20:35

I'm quite interested in finding out how the race horse naming works.

FrankelInFoal Tue 10-Sep-13 16:32:50

These are the basic rules:

You cannot use:

- a name already registered in the register of horse names (unless that horse has a) reached 30 years of age or b) been dead at least 10 years)

- a name followed by one or more numbers;

- a name on the International and Domestic Lists of Protected Names;

- a name of more than 18 characters, including signs or spaces;

- a name made up entirely of initials, or include figures, hyphens, full-stops, commas, signs, exclamation marks, inverted commas, forward or backward slash, colon and semi-colon;

- a name that starts with a sign other than a letter;

- a name containing more than seven syllables;

- a name the pronunciation of which the Authority considers to be identical or unacceptably similar, to
1. a name that is on the International or Domestic Lists of Protected Names, or
2. a name that is already registered for a horse foaled in a year that is within 10 years of the year of foaling of the horse to which the application relates;

- a name which the Authority considers
1. is suggestive or has a vulgar, obscene or insulting meaning,
2. is in poor taste,
3. may be offensive to religious, political or ethnic groups,
4. may otherwise cause offence,
5. may cause confusion in the administration of racing or betting, or
6. is the name of a well-known horse.

- Names of people and/or companies cannot be used except without the express permission of the person or their estate or the company concerned.

- Names can be reused around 10 years after the death of the original horse.

Questions? grin

TeWiSavesTheDay Tue 10-Sep-13 16:35:57

The last horse person to post wins MN right?

FrankelInFoal Tue 10-Sep-13 16:38:05

On that basis the following posters fail to get past the Authority:

VenusRising (there is a 10yo mare with this name)

FrankelInFoal Tue 10-Sep-13 17:13:21

See, told you I'd bore you! grin

JerseySpud Tue 10-Sep-13 17:16:35

Would i pass?

LegoDragon Tue 10-Sep-13 17:34:26

Would my name do? Or would it cause offence to dragons/Lego?
