I really hate whistling. It has the same effect on me as finger nails down a blackboard. My 2 older children have learnt to whistle over the past few years - but it isn't melodious and tuneful, its high pitched and endless, all on one note but meant to sound like a song due to length of "notes". I really hate it. I tolerate lots of noise and am absolutely happy for them to have lots of friends 'round, dress up and put on "shows", sing and dance etc. I don't mind them making a mess or building dens in the living room (on condition they clear up). I just don't let them to whistle indoors... or in the car.

It is the only thing I have in common with Sheldon Cooper (I haven't made them sign a room-mate agreement).

AIBU?

YANBU.

I hate hate hate whistling. We currently live in a flat, with the adjoining flat being let out to holiday makers. Our corridors run parallel with each other, and a couple of weeks ago a bloke was staying next door and he whistled all the fucking time. I nearly broke the wall down with the fire axe and killed him.

YANBU. I hate whistling, it makes me feel murderous.

I was waiting for a lift the other day and an old man was standing near me whistling (in that particular old man warbly whistle) Ravel's Bolero.

I wanted to hit him over the head with an axe (disclaimer - I have never hit anyone in my life).

Ban all whistling!

YABU - whistling should be banned everywhere not just in your house. I bloody hate it, it's nothing more than a high-pitched, pain-inducing squeal.

YANBU I know a whistler and it does my head in. Also men who constantly jingle change in their pocket.

I wouldn't mind if DS started whistling....it would make a welcome change from armpit farts constantly, every waking hour!

Not unreasonable in any way shape or form. Whistling should be illegal. End of.

One of the reasons I hate Homebase is that god awful tuneless whistling advert

Really, as if that would encourage me to shop there Hmm

Its bad luck to whistle in a theatre - if they are interested in putting on shows do you think they would respect the superstition?

Superstitious me, whistling indoors brings great poverty

Yay! Whistling unanimously voted as evil - ban stands :o

Sorry about the armpit farts Norbert :o

Off to google superstitions about the evil brought down by whistling... They are obsessive performers so the theatre one is relevant, and DD is very mercenary, so poverty also relevant (I had a nagging feeling the money was disappearing quicker since they both started whistling nothing to do with them getting older and more expensive, and DC3 arriving during the same time period obviously

YANBU
I HATE whistling too. DP does it to wind me up. Ban it. Or find something they all dislike like polystyrene or a blackboard which you can use when they're annoying you.
