AIBU?

Aibu to expect Cunting Currys not to be a complete shower of bastards?

I am so furious I can hardly speak Angry

My 9 month old table top dishwasher went wrong in mid July. As it was less than a year old it was still under warranty. So I contact Currys and an engineer is booked to attend on 15 July.

Engineer couldn't fix it so took it away. Almost 3 weeks later it comes back and it doesn't work. It actually had a new fault despite having been in the workshop for weeks. About a week later another engineer comes out. Still broken, can't be fixed and is condemned. He tells me Currys will arrange a replacement. 3 weeks later NO CONTACT. I email and try to phone but am on hold for ages. Finally get through on 30th August. Item out of stock and won't be in for weeks. I can have a refund of the cost but obviously I have paid for installation etc and I would need to pay again if I went elsewhere.

On Monday I get a call about my email complaint (about a 5 day response time so that's improving). Get more patronising bollocks off the woman on the phone about item out of stock nothing they can do even though it's been weeks and the service has been abysmal. While on the phone I can see my dishwasher for sale on website. She agrees to order it and I will get a call either that day or tomorrow. No call comes but an envelope of receipts arrives on Wednesday. Try to get through on phone but stuck on hold again.

So to today. A text arrives telling me my delivery is coming today. Eventually two guys arrive with enormous box. They take away old dishwasher then wave bye. The box is the width of the kitchen floor and I can't get to the only bathroom and loo (and the baby's just shat all over the high chair but that's not their fault). I ask them where they're going - no installation's been booked.

They take pity on me and unpack it and install it. Except it's not properly installed. It's lurching towards the sink, all the tubes are twisted, there's water everywhere and the electric cable is sitting in the water. They've not turned it on, which is just as well because I suspect there's rather a large risk of electrocution and/or flooding.

There's nothing Currys can do Hmm even though there is a hazard sitting in my kitchen. I am livid.

There have also been missed appointments, missed callbacks and each time I have had to wait in all day because they are whole day appointments. That's 4 days so far because they didn't tell me about the last delivery. Oh and I can't speak to a manager apparently.

Sorry it is epic but I have told you everything to avoid the dripfeed. I have remained calm and polite throughout until the last Kafkaesque phone call (another 20 minutes of my life gone) where they told me there was nothing that could be done today despite there being cables in water and I have two small children at home. I got a bit tearful then Blush

I am thoroughly fed up.

Sadly yes, YABU to expect anything other than shit service from them, they're a bunch of bastards in my experiences with them Sad

I'd be livid too. I recently had problems with DFS which spanned two years. I got a response within 48 hours from the CEO's PA when I emailed.

The CEO for Currys is [email protected]. Might be worth a try?

Have you seen how they 'interview' staff?

here

Is that the dancing ubik? I heard it on the radio the other day. Disgusting.

I don't think the dancing is really any worse than the "choose items to take to a desert island" stuff that goes on in many job interviews nowadays.

Yes I will try the CEO. Thank you WeAreSix.

I'm not used to such shoddy service. TalkTalk weren't even as crap.

Another thought - take photos of the state your kitchen has been left in as evidence, you can always attach that to the email too.

I've already taken photos to show dh. I am considering getting our plumber out and then claiming via county court. I don't trust Currys to sort this out.

No callback and the guy on the phone kept putting me on mute. Probably to call me a few choice names. sigh.

Emailed:

Dear Mr James

I have tried repeatedly to sort out problems with your company but to no avail. To save me going through it all again I have linked the thread I have started on Mumsnet.

Apologies for the language. Now that's one more apology than I've had from your organisation!

Yours sincerely

Nope, they are useless. Customer service well...they don't know the meaning of the words.

Oh lordy. The poor two blokes are back. Stood on the doorstep in the rain probably had a bollocking for something that's not their fault :(

Still, I've made them test it before leaving this time. The dishwasher is not working.

But on the up side the house hasn't burned down and there isn't much flooding Hmm

K8, I hope Mr. James realises that I and many others remember stuff like this after we've read it on Mumsnet.

Then we don't give these shops our custom.

Hope you've had some answers.
I'd point out what I'd like to happen next:
A different model and completely different dishwasher? Free delivery and fitting at a date agreed upon. A guarantee that any loss of income from missed days at work will be refunded if they fail to deliver this final time ?
If you don't want to risk any more chances a full refund and some compensation.

Companies need to learn they'll go under eventually if they are this crap this often.

I've asked for all that alredy WowOoo after the farce of getting the last one fixed. Apparently this is most unreasonable.

The poor blokes have gone and I've got a load of dirty water on the kitchen floor. Luckily there's a stairgate to the kitchen or the baby would be having an extra bath today.

The older dc has gone feral now because I'm not giving him enough attention.

I can't believe them making people going for an interview dance.

I really can't - just disgusting. I do hope the people who organised lose their job and then have to go job hunting!!!

How sick and awful for the poor people put through that - as if job hunting isn't hard enough in this climate.

I am SO glad the BBC did this story - i will never ever step inside a Curry Store again.

And sorry for the rubbish service you've had K8Middleton.

Have a Wine and Thanks til they eventually sort it out for you.

Why don't you invoice them for your time??? [so you can go somewhere else and buy a whole new kitchen]]

Me neither motownmover.

K8, they should be emailing or calling YOU back.

Have a rest until you can face it (to prevent head exploding) and see what the power of Mumsnet and Twitter can do!

I don't get why when there is a recession on the customer service disappears when really it should get better Confused

This is exactly the sort of thing I "google" for before I make a big purchase. Need a new cooker and fridge freezer, and now I know exactly where NOT to go!

I hope that you get it sorted soon OP.

I've had a cup of tea and a bun and now I'm giving the baby a cuddle so that's a bit better.

You could die of old age before Curry's ironically named KnowHow team call you back. I should totally invoice them for my time Grin I will need it to pay for a holiday to recover.

Thank you all for the sympathy. It is a bit of a first world problem in the grand scheme of things but I was beginning to wonder if I was being unreasonable to expect a working repair or replacement because they always seem so surprised when I say "I just want to be put back to the situation I was in before it went wrong".

Nobody has even apologised from Currys. Bastards.

Oh I tell a lie. The patronising complaint lady said "I'm sorry that you feel that way". Aka "I'm not the least bit sorry but you will keep going on".
