or is Headteacher power crazy? (Uniform thread)

So ds started his secondary school yesterday. When we had induction day in July, the teacher mentioned that they had just bought in new Logo school trousers & skirts.
Now the entire school has to change uniform as policy before was plain black trousers/ skirt. Fine. Except that the school uniform shop now has a huge backlog of uniform, and over half the school has not received the uniform. So imagine masses of parents in 1 tiny uniform shop, owner on the phone to school- apparently will allow plain black trousers/ skirt.
Except yesterday, it wasn't fine. The Head sent home over 75 pupils, local newspaper at the school, pupils bought back by parents were put into isolation. As far as I am aware, they did not send home yr7's. They did however get a massive bollocking. DS very upset.
Dp went into school this morning to get a grip on what was happening. As he was waiting, pupils were swarming past him, having been pulled out of lessons to go to conference room to explain why they dont have school logo skirt/ trousers. Ds included. Head was in conference room shouting at them & they were coming out and being taking off into different rooms(?) Dp has arranged meeting with head at 11.30am today.

Oh my God. It sounds like they had decided they were going to come down like a ton of bricks on people who disregarded the uniform and then went ahead regardless even though they should have been aware that there were supply problems! There should be at least a year's grace when there is a change of uniform anyway to allow children to grow out of existing uniform.
Our local senior school insists on full winter uniform when they go back, so jumper and blazer. Awful as it was baking hot even at 9 am this morning. So different from when i was at school when we chose when to wear our jumper according to how warm we were. So much more sensible

You have had 6 weeks to sort out buying of the uniform so why the last minute rush?

heavy handed by the head but also unreasonable by the parents to leave it to the last minute to kit the kids out for school.

They should have given the kids the first week grace period knowing the difficulties with uniform but otherwise I completely side with schools on having a strict uniform policy

Absolutely ridiculous!!!!!! logos on skirts and trousers, what a stupid idea, the Headteacher is BVU. Sorry but I would not be happy with a child of mine attending a school run in such a dictator fashion. I fully agree with uniform but this is unbelievable.

How sad that the Year 7s had to suffer this on their first day, it is a big enough step forward in their lives as it is without a jumped up little hitler.

Was the uniform only available in one shop? That's bloody ridiculous. They should have known that there would have been a rush on for the logo'd stuff and started to sort it out months ago, never mind July they should have been getting everything in stock much earlier.
And why are the children being blamed for something they obviously couldn't help?

Schools round here have all gone OTT on uniform, i'm sure the fact they get 10% of all uniform sales is bog all to do with it £8for a pair of pe socks, you need an indoor air, an outdoor pair and if you do drama a pair for that too, all in different colours. That's £24 on socks alone, if you have a few kids to buy for that's £££££. They have all adopted pricey blazers etc too.

Trousers, skirts etc are all a certain colour in one particular school and logoed too, parents really do need to make a stand on this issue.

The irony is, a school in the next town, one of th best performig in the country only has a bog standard logoed jumper with trousers/skirt combo, everything else is down to the parents, make of that what you will.

I assume this is a school where 90% the pupils get 8 A* GCSE grades in core subjects, the AS and A2 results look like Eton's and the kid who gets into UCL to study Mathematics is looked on pityingly by everyone else who's off to Oxbridge? Because otherwise you might think that the head had their priorities slightly askew.

It was never the militant when I was at school. As long as we had our tie and the right coloured sweatshirt and skirt/trousers it was Ok. Where did all this bollocks about logos come from?
